He probably doesn't beat many at all. He had pretty rudimentary skills. A top boxer could handle him okay. At welterweight, though, Mayorga had very, very heavy hands. And he was pretty ferocious. I was recently rewatching some of those old Mayorga-Six Heads Lewis fights. If you didn't keep your distance, Mayorga could take your head off. He was so much better than the doughy clown he is now. That lean, crazed welterweight Mayorga I could see having a shot at KOing anyone who remained very close and got caught with a shot they didn't see. Especially some of the smaller ATG welters in history. For instance, a Mayorga-Cuevas fight at 147 would've been insane. Even one of the best ever - Henry Armstrong - liked to stay inside and work you over. I'm sure Armstrong wins a decision against Mayorga by a mile or breaks him down and stops him 99 percent of the time. But if the smaller Armstrong remained in close with a hard-charging Mayorga, on some nights it might've looked like Dempsey-Firpo, with Armstrong finding himself trying to climb back in the ring. Mayorga wasn't great by any stretch, but his wildness and power when he was at his best at welterweight meant he wasn't an easy out for anyone. Put together a top 100 list of the best welters ever, and on his best day Mayorga might stop a handful.
