Is there any possible redemption for Margarito?

Its a longshot, but he would have to accomplish a lot to regain the faith of the boxing community again, but no matter what happens he will always be branded as a cheater.

However if he were to fight a rematch with Cotto and wins that one, then I feel it brings legitimacy to all of his career wins, especially the first Cotto fight, along with the Clottey and Cintron wins.

Does a Cotto win do enough to legitimize his past wins?

surely couldnt we say a cheat got beat by a cheat?!

all of a sudden people forget what shane did?!

surely you cant define one fight on a fighters legacy?! his win against a supposed 'unbeatable' cotto was epic beond epic. styles make fights, mosleys style proved too much for margarito, where as cottos wasnt.

If the "plaster" was over exaggerated and he didn't cheat / nor try to cheat.

He beats Cotto, gets the Mosley rematch and beats him and Paul Williams.

Mosley dominating him like that though... I just dont see it happening.. he was humiliated.

Its going to be difficult now that the blue print has been put out, and also the cheating plays a huge role in his legitimacy when he was champ. He can rebound, but he needs some pretty good victories in the future.

Can Margarito hold up to 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 rounds of loaded powershots from the top guys and not disintigrate? At this point it seems unclear. When that seal gets broken it's broken more often than not. This guy just got the ultimate beating to punctuate a career of beatings.

I am not sure there is redemption. His career is now great wins which he destroyed guys, and then the other fights he was technically dominated by Williams and Shane. What this tells us is Shane is a very physical fighter.

I don't think he can without changing his style (which I don't think is possible). I think its obvious that every fighter he faces from now on is gonna try and do the same as Sugar Shane i.e. Alternating jabs to the head and body, hitting him with over the top right hands and tying him up before he can get his punches off. I think a lot of the psychological barrier has been lifted as well as now everybody knows he can be knocked out so is no longer as feared in the respect.

It depends on if his punch resistance and state of mind have been affected.

If they haven't, I think he'll still be a great handful for any Welter out there. In my view Shane beat him the way he did because apart from his superb gameplan, he had the speed advantage, he had enough power to keep marg off him, and he had the strength to outmuscle him on the inside. Cotto didn't appear to have these latter two advantages. It's hard to not back away from someone if he's physically stronger than you, walking forward through your punches and throwing hurtful shots at you. Remember that when asked about why he didn't go to the body Cotto said: "I couldn't".

If an investigation is held and it is proven and made known to all boxing fans etc around the world that he did infact not cheat and it was a case of something else that wasn't illegal, but then.. you will still have the idiots who would believe he still cheated even if he was proven not too.

I would say Shane's persona lets him get away with the steroid thing more than any boxer I could remember, despite there being so much evidence and so much info that was provided through the media.

Anyway, on to the subject, I don't think Margarito would have to be perfect and even win all his fights in order for the noise to subside, that will happen over time. Remember Fernando Vargas? I recall how big it was when he was caught using roids after the De la Hoya fight, he still continued to get fights afterward, especially after he became very beatable and vulnerable. He became a household name that was "once dangerous" but now easy to beat and looked good on the resume. If Tony doesn't recover from this loss (physically and mentally), he may end up like Vargas. He may have some big fights with the smaller men who are looking to move up in weight to look good (like what Baldomir was to Mayweather).

Redemption against Mosley? No. Redemption about the hand wrapping...of course. There is a lot of backlash right now and alot of fans are on the "he got what he deserved" kick. But did he really get what he deserved? Or did his fans get what they deserved? Mosley got caught using ****ing steroids...James Toney got caught using sterooids. Those two are still looked upon as two of the best boxers of the modern era. I don't hold the handwrapping against Margarito because I don't know enough about it. I do know that he has fought his ass off for us fans and always puts on a good show. He also beat Cotto, almost beat Williams and destroyed cintron twice.

Yes there is and I can see it planned out.

    Cintron III
    Manuel Gomez II
    Cotto II
    Andrew Lewis II

And the most feared man on earth title is regained with full glory, in Tijuana.

To regain my faith he would have to serve as Vitali Klitschko's sparring parter for him upcoming fight.

Hopefully Margarito and his trainer are banned from Boxing for life.
