I was thinking about this question the other day. Who does UFC still have from the big names in their HW class? Nog- well Fedor beat him 2 times already (and that was a prime Nog, not the older version we have today). Sylvia is a free agent. Arlovski is going to be a free agent. Cro Cop is now not with the UFC. Couture is not with the UFC (although granted, if Fedor was to join UFC this fight would be easier to make). But Couture is pretty old, and does it make much sense to join UFC just for that fight, when it appears that if he just waits a little, they can fight in a different organization? Who else is out there in the UFC? Werdum? Gonzaga? I really don't think these fighters make much sense. In fact, since Sylvia and Arlovski are not with the UFC, it makes sense for Fedor to not join UFC so that he will be able to fight these two.
No. Why? So he can fight Kongo or Heath Herring again? Besides Nog, every other top fighter is out AA, Sylvia, Barnett and Couture :deal
Yea, I never thought about that. There really isn't a reason other than money perhaps. "I will have them all." ~ Dana White. kk
Well, the UFC IS still the biggest stage in MMA, so that in itself is a pretty good reason, given that all those good heavies will be difficult to herd being scattered all around different orgs. However i agree, without Couture, Cro Cop, Sylvia and Bartnett, there's no real draw personel-wise.
I think there is so much room for a new company to come, sign all those guys and then pwn UFC. Imagine if say EliteXC got to sign Barnett, Fedor, Arlovski, Couture... That would be huge. I think that would pretty much be a big blow to the UFC since a lot of people like HWs and so this will draw fans to other promotions. Oh, and EliteXC has showtime. Dana White is an idiot for allowing this to happen to his company.
Very true. Imagine the hype that would follow. EliteXC would be foolish to not pick up some of these "free agents"
I used to think it would be the best thing for MMA, but with everybody being spread out among different org's ,so I guess it's not as important now.
Well, more reason than any other particular organization, all the arguments against the UFC work just as well for any other org.
