Is there any sport with a bigger fundamental difference between the pro and amateur levels than boxing? It seems to me like pretty much every other sport that has an amateur or farm system it's essentially the same as the pros. Boxing on the other hand has something that may as well be considered a different sport.
i dont think so to tell the truth amateur boxing the rules are so different its unreal amateur success doesnt mean what it used to...in baseball and hockey you play by the same rules with the same equipment where as boxing you get scored different and body shots are all but useless amatuer boxing is about slappy no power combos and if you do that in the pros you will get countered and KTFO watching the olympics i cant believe how different it is..i would say its almost useless to be a amateur after you learn the skills to box
Good thread. And no, I can't think of another sport with that wide of a discrepancy. The only thing that could even come close is T-Ball or Coach Pitch baseball and Major League Baseball where your opponents pitch.
It wasn't always this way, it became much worse when they revamped the scoring system after Jones got robbed of his gold medal back in 1988.
yeah thats what i was basically saying before if you won a gold in the olympics it meant pro success would follow
