    I have it the opposite.

The higher the weight, the more chance Canelo would have had.

At JMW, Canelo couldn’t win a round off of Floyd, and he barely beat Lara and Trout.

Now he’s in his prime at SMW, or maybe just past his prime, he’s more aggressive than he was when he was younger, and he’s more experienced and more powerful.

It doesn’t matter if he’s better though.

Would he have been as aggressive?

I don’t think that he would have been at the lower weights.

Yeah he definitely came into his prime at MW/SMW just think Hearn's chin got a bit more sturdy above MW.

Hearns obviously went to war with Marvin.

So did Canelo have more firepower and a sturdier chin than Marvin?

    At the lower weights?

    More experience against elite boxers?

He didn’t win a round off of Floyd, and he lost to Bivol comprehensively.

    He also barely beat Lara.

Hearns had far more experience and success against elite boxers.

He fought Leonard x 2, Benitez, Duran and Hill etc.

Did/does Canelo have more firepower than Hearns?

    At all weights?

Bivol has a good jab but Hearns has a GREAT jab and he throws it with much more snap then Bivol does.
He dominated Hill with just a jab and Hills go to punch was his jab.
He bounced Andries off the canvas and while Andries was limited he was very tough and Hearns stopped him.
Hearns could actually sit back and dominate with his jab if he wanted.
And Hearns jab was a punishing jab that busted up boxers.

Saunders is not even close to a Hearns by any stretch of any imagination.
Hearns CRUSHED Duran at jr.middle and Duran had a concrete chin so at jr.middle Canelo has 0 chance.

Weight Drained Hearns (w. Rehydration Clause) and rigged Judges to steal the fight.

At 154, I think Hearns is the clear favourite.
His best days were at 147 and 154.

At 160, I think Canelo has a slight edge.

At 168 and 175, I think Canelo is a clearer favourite.

I don't think anyone would claim Canelo hit harder than Hagler (a war), or Barkley (2 wars). And Barkley completely rearranged Hearns' face in the 2nd fight but didn't stop him. Even Sugar Ray was a real hitter and vicious and it took him 13 rounds. Canelo couldn't stop Danny Jacobs, Callum Smith or even an undersized Miguel Cotto. Tee'd off on John Ryder and couldn't stop him. We're overrating Canelo's power a little bit here.

Did you say that Canelo has a better ring IQ and greater firepower than Thomas Hearns? I'm begging you to put a poll up in a new thread posing those two questions. Hearns is one of only a handful of boxers who was "never" in their entire career outboxed. Hell he outboxed Virgil Hill post prime and he outboxed Benitez in his prime. Benitez is most assuredly the level of Floyd and Hill is better than Bivol, there's no question in my mind.

Hearns was never in his entire career beaten by someone who didn't throw volumes of punches to get him outta there. This simply never happened. You gotta really look at who actually beat Hearns and who Hearns dispatched, Then look at who Canelo struggled against/wins and losses. Hearns chin only failed against two of the greatest fighters in history and against an absolute monster who could be outboxed but rarely lost a trench war.

This isn't to say Canelo isn't good, he's an excellent boxer but he has severe limitations against certain styles, Hearns epitomizes that style (fast, mover, active etc....)

I know Tommy was a bad ass
& I do favor him vs Ginger Punch
But he was SO damn skinny makes feel strange picking him against anybody really!

I agree 100%. I could see Hearns using his jab to great effect to limit Canelo.
