Is there anyone out there who still doubts Pacquiao is the best fighter in the world?

Let's suppose he does. I seem to recall a whole slew of Hatton apologists making excuses for Wicky after he got his ass handed to him by Mayweather in the nature of, "But...but...but...Wicky is a natural 140 pounder, he was just too small to compete at 147."

    For beating B- David Diaz?

This win is nothing but a tune up, if you had your P4P #1 vacant prior to the Diaz fight, this should have little effect on it. Can't wait until he gets annihilated by Guzman or Campbell, then we'll see just how effective cross styles are.

And no, he's not 'the best fighter' in the World, he's universally ranked P4P #1, but that's an entirely different thing.

After watching that performance last night I'd put him above Calzaghe now. Having said that I haven't seen Diaz before, so don't have an opinion on how good an opponent he was.

I just read some of the other posts on this thread...talk about objectivity going AWOL.

What I saw from Manny Pacquiao was a guy that has gone from being an amazing offensive fighter to a complete and masterful boxer. While he still throws those wicked combinations at speed he has now become more calculated and crontrolled. Because of this he has become more acurate and his shots contain more power, while giving the opponent less chance to counter. He has improved his approach, moving well laterally which not only allows him to throw those fast shots from awkward angles but making it more difficult for his opponent to land their return shots.

Just because a guy has sensational attacking prowess doesn't mean he can't be the complete package. Diaz may have been the perfect opponent in regards to style but the simple fact is that Manny made a champion look like a chump.

He lost twice to JMM so of course people will doubt whether he's the best fighter in the world.

P4P #1 and 'the best fighter' in the world 'regardless of weight class' are the exact same thing? The P4P rating system is entirely efficient at qualifying that solely off of resume?

Not at all. On a P4P H2H scale, he does not stack up well to many fighters, namely really slick counter punchers who have the defence and chin to deal with him adequately.

And why does beating Diaz cement anything? Diaz is a 2nd tier fighter. If Casamayor had crushed him in round 1, nobody would have cared, or would have jumped out of their seat, but when Pac evidently schools him(who didn't pick this?)and stops him, it's a revelation about Pac, things we didn't know about Pac?

Sorry, this is the typical reaction after a big name elite fighter fights a 2nd tier and the 2nd tier can do nothing in response, thus impressing inexperienced fans MORE than they should be.

What's JMM? JMM beat him twice but didn't get the official result due to judging incompetence. I guess that means he's lesser than Pac despite giving him the bigger beating in both fights.

How can he be P4P no1 when most had him losing to Marquez? Plus hes been avoiding Guzman like the plague and hes not fought any of the top 5 fighters in his new division

some of you act like some straight b.....s! whining about diaz was **** and he lost to marquez.diaz was a champion somewhere within the top 3 at lightweight, everyone forgets his ko of santa cruz the same one who scooled casamayor.while marquez gave pacman two hella fights but if he wanted to win he shoulda kept his ass off the canvas.marquez is a great fighter only known in general for fighting pacquiao while pacman will turn anyone into a star who steps in the ring with him.marquez is by no way a better fighter than pac there records and past opponents should prove this.just because one guy has a style to give you some difficulty means just that marquez couldn't dream of punishing his foes the way pac does

No he can be P4P #1, if you choose to rank him that way and most do, nobody will argue that and have a legitimate argument. But that is one type of P4P rating system that does it.

My point on the matter is that if he already wasn't P4P #1 prior to Diaz for some people, but now is, well then that's just ridiculous. It would be like Calzaghe fighting Stipe Drews and winning by dominant stoppage and everyone flipping out, only that wouldn't happen, because Stipe Drews is a 2nd tier fighter, like David Diaz.

Amesterdam, let me have your comments regarding this previous post of mine:

"Hmmm, I think you are overlooking many aspects here, and being far too dismissive of Calzaghe.

If we are honest the divisions that Pac fights in are far less contested than the divisions Calzaghe is fighting in. While there is the occasional caucasian or black fighter small enough to fight in these divisions, Pac has basically created his name fighting latinos and asians. You could (if you wanted to be a little extreme) claim that his belts could be called the 'Latino-Asian championships' in somewhat the same way that 'World Baseball League' could really be called 'American Baseball League'."
