Is there anyone out there who still doubts Pacquiao is the best fighter in the world?

Or it would be like Calzaghe fighting Lacy, and winning a dominant decision and somehow being catalpulted in top 5 p5p despite being outside the top 10 before...? Infact, David Diaz has bigger names on his resume than Lacy had. Dont get me wrong, Lacy had the H2H advantage but this was Pac going up in weight and destroying one of its champions.

But I am not insisting that Calzaghe should be ranked P4P #1, I'd in fact argue against that. My posts are about a general point dealing with ranking.

David Diaz was nothing special, yet it cements him as a concrete P4P #1?

No, it doesn't, but if he was P4P #1 prior to this, obviously he is still P4P #1 because nobody has done anything recently to surpass that mantle, if indeed he is placed there by most. But this is one kind of P4P raking system, which is based solely off of paper resume more than anything.

But Diaz is not even a big addition, not the type of fighter that actually moves you up in the P4P rankings.

Neither is Margarito for Cotto. BUT, Shane Mosely did move Cotto up in the rankings, because Mosely was an elite fighter at the time and maybe still is(we'll have to see). But you don't always need to meet an elite to move up, just top guys, which Diaz again was not.

I fear for the Cotto-Margarito reaction if this is the Pac-Diaz reaction, being that Margarito is so widely accepted as an elite level fighter, when in all reality he's a borderline top tier, closer to 2nd and Cotto will one sidedly beat him down and stop him.

Like I said, some guys with certain styles are just favoured in regard depending on win.... even though he's evidently not crowd pleasing, they favour Calderon in the top 10 for defeating NOBODY.

Funny you say this. Werent you the one who was saying a A level fighter can put on an A performance against a B-level fighter and that would raise their ranking. I think you said that in regards to Mijares...I could be wrong, tell me if I am ;)

Joseph? And I don't see a counter debate, I'll assume that I am at least in the logical area with it.:good

No, I said that an A level performance can be made over a B- fighter, never did I say an A level performance automatically boosts you up in the rankings.

Pac did put an A level performance on, but wasn't it expected?

Entirely different scenerio. If Pac was actually a 3-1 underdog and David Diaz was actually a top fighter, regardless of names on resume, of course the dominative win he made last night would be a cementing of his P4P #1 status.

And have I really argued against Pac being P4P #1 on the 'general rating system' that ring magazine and everyone else uses? No, I haven't, I have no good argument.

The entire point of what I am stating here is that tune up wins, over 2nd tier crop fighters, do not effect your P4P ranking. That's all I am explaining and some aren't getting it.

Yes, it was. The only fighter who consistently puts in A level performances in the last few years has been Pacquiao. This is why he is the best fighter in the world.:good

Can't say, the year is open. What I will say is that H2H wise, he will lose to several fighters at 135 and badly, now does that mean he's the best fighter out of his weight class(some here would argue), or does that mean that his glaring flaws at a fighter will catch up to him against opponents who excell in defense and countering, such as Campbell, or Joan Guzman?

I will state this again -

Pac, on the typical system is P4P #1. But he is not necessarily 'the best fighter' in the world by any means, he's too beatable for that. And by that I am meaning judging not on accomplishments or resume, but by skill/ability/h2h assumption, which is an entirely different way to rank guys and it has nothing to do with how you'd like to rank him here.

I am not having a laugh, if you want to debate the subject seriously, then do so. Nobody is laughing at your views, if not, then I'll just accept your resignation from debating this subject, either way it's not a big deal, it's just forum debating.

Any fighter is beatable if he goes up in weight far enough or if he climbs down far enough.

Pacman has performed consistently at a higher level than anyone else in boxing lately. Do you disagree with that? If you do, who has performed at a higher level consistently? If you don't, then how come he is not the best fighter in the world?

I know mate. I was just curious to hear if you think it is the same - or if a players warrants the same credit for being the world's no. 20 football player as for being the world's no. 20 curling player?

In other words, does a fighter warrant the same credit for being the best in a division that (for general physical and statistical reason) only some asians and some latinos can even compete in? :think
