Is there anyone who still doubts Froch was about to KTFO groves in fight 1?

I still remember the shower of tripe coming from most people after that fight.

"Groves knocked froch unconscious and he only woke up by hitting his head"

"Groves has given froch serious brain damage"

"Froch was out on his feet for 6 rounds"

"Froch is overrated , his chin is average and his resume is hype"

Froch CLEARLY underestimated groves and paid early, but was coming back as he has done many times, had started to land and Groves was ready to crumble clear as day.

The ref jumped in and saved groves from a legit knockout and obviously in the rematch froch pretty much controlled groves and folded him like an accordion

Does anyone exist who still belives groves wasn't just about to get wrecked in froch 1

It was a premature stoppage pal no one doubts that.

The outcome of the second fight doesn’t somehow change the fact that the first fight was stopped way too early.

Froch was not over rated but it does need to be reconized that he would not have beaten Joe Calzagaue .

    Premature yes.

The ref robbed Froch of a highlight reel Ko victory

A premature stoppage no doubt, was Froch about to stop Groves though?
    No doubt.

I'm surprised anyone still gives this much thought after all these years to be honest. Oh well, the human mind is a complex thing I guess.

I agree but at the same time the ref earned him £9m for the rematch.

I'm not sure why this thread came up to be honest. However with hindsight the premature stoppage was the best thing that could have happened. It set up the rematch with so many questions.

Froch - Groves 2 launched British boxing to new heights and obviously looked what has followed.

Going back to the first bout, it is 99.9% likely that Groves would have been laid out if he was allowed to continue.

Then the rematch maybe doesn't happen.

Due to the nature of the first fight it is also very possible Groves could have been seriously hurt if it continued as well, resulting in attention boxing does not need.

He seems too proud to take a knee. If he would have taken one who knows. Plus nobody knows how hurt he was because nobody can say for certain how he was because the ref stopped in far too early. He’s the one who robbed the fans of a proper answer to the fight. He looked iffy at that point but nowhere near as bad as Froch had looked throughout the fight.

I wouldn’t say Froch’s chin was average, without it he would have been. He has an unreal chin.

It was the first fight that really sucked me into boxing, looking for more info on the boxers I found IFL and eventually this place.

It's quite clear that the stoppage was premature and it's amazing what that decision did for British Boxing. IMO the wave is still flowing from that fight.

I agree, the build up to that second fight will never be surpassed. The only thing that came close for me in my time is Hatton vs Mayweather.

Carl Froch vs Ruben Groenewald was a FIXED fight, Groenewald exposes Froch and ref Howard Foster BIG time on YouTube. The stoppage of the fight doesn't it remind you of something similar?
Now you know Froch vs Groves 1 was fixed and by the way I think Adam Booth left Groves because he was told to get out the fight will be fixed/rigged.

The stoppage was a joke. Nothing will change that

    So what?

Does groves get some sort of "moral victory" over the fact that it was a **** stoppage even though we ALL know groves was about to be unconscious on the canvas 10 seconds later.

Well tbf he built a career off that bit of luck so there you go.
