Is there footage of Matt Franklin(AKA Sadd Muhammad) vs. Billy Douglas?

Actually this was a very one sided bout for most of the fight. Franklin was pounding on Douglas for most of the fight with Douglas reeling around the ring. Nowadays the fight would have been stopped several times as Douglas looked severely punch drunk throughout. In the fifth round Franklin was hammering Douglas all over and a stoppage looked imminent. Franklin got careless going for the KO and maybe a minute into the fifth Douglas landed a desperation left hook that dropped Franklin on all fours. Franklin was up at the time keepers count of three (and before the ref had even picked up the count, so no it was not a long count) and then the tables turned and it was Douglas battering Franklin in Douglas' corner. After about thirty seconds or so Franklin seemed to recover for the most part and the two then traded punches more or less evenly. In the sixth the action resumed with Franklin getting the better of most exchanges. Finally maybe midway through the round Franklin landed a series of punches that snapped Douglas' head back. Douglas' legs had never seemed under him and the ref, who had been watching Douglas closely for several rounds jumped in and stopped Douglas on his feet. Douglas wanted to continue, and some could claim it was a little bit early considering Douglas had been in bad shape throughout the fight but nobody could deny Douglas was taking a lot of punishment and his legs had been very wobbly for several rounds. I dont think it was a horrible stoppage. Maybe not great but certainly no robbery.

It wasnt a horrible stoppage but the thing that made it look worse than it was was that earlier Douglas had Saad just as hurt as Douglas was at the stoppage and that Douglas had been hurt just as bad earlier without the ref stepping in only to come back and hurt Saad. But, Douglas was in bad shape and had been wobbly for several rounds so it wasnt terrible.

 

I was at this one and remember thinking it was a hometown stoppage. It was like Douglas just did the same to him and the ref let it go and now Saad comes back and the ref stopped it. I remember the barrage of boos too, they lasted until the instant the announcer said Saad's name as the winner and they immediately changed to cheers for Saad. But yeah, my initial reaction was it was stopped too soon. Great fight, I wish it would pop up on video
