Is there no film whatsoever of Harry Greb in an actual fight?

Luf, who can reall tell.? Why no film of Jack Britton [344 fights], Harry Greb [300 fights], Maxie Rosenbloom, [,299 fights], whilst so many of their lesser opponents are captured on film today ? A mystery.
    I have my own
Bermuda triangle", for I Watched Ray Robinson decision Bobby Dykes in Coney Island Veledrome, NY in the 1950s [ not Chicago, 1950] and this bout I SAW is not in the record books. Yes, boxing has it's own mysteries...
    Take care L...

Yes it was filmed, I have read somewhere about the film being reviewed by sportswriters who were not at the bout - I think a year or so afterwards - I will see if I can look up the source for you Luf...

Before the days of the internet and a camera in every pocket, you'd watch the fight on tv. Then you'd read about the next day in the paper, and again a week or a month later in the sports magazines.

Sometimes you'd read what they wrote and you'd be left scratching your head thinking what the hell were they watching. But most of the time the news reports were right on the mark.

We can all go down to our local libraries and find on microfilm or computer, old copies of papers like the NY Times going back to the 1800s. My hometown (Saginaw, Mich) was a city of under 100,000 but the main library had archives for the NYT, Chicago Tribune, Detroit Free Press, LA Times and others going back for decades to the last turn of the century. I am now living in Miami and their main branch here has dozens of archived national and international newspapers.

We can read the articles and judge their accuracy based on the fights that are available on video. We can then seek out the next day reports by these same writers for fights like Greb-Walker or Greb-Tunney 1. We can read the contemporary articles from competing organizations and a clear enough picture emerges.

I have good news for you Senya. I own some clips on Dundee. Who told you there was no footage on him?

I was going off my memory. I checked the lists and there's indeed listed the Johnny Dundee-Eugene Criqui fight. Is that what you own or is there more? I don't count the film of his two sparrings. They give a glimpse of his style, but he's not really trying in either one.

I think I have 2 or 3 clips of Dundee in the ring, not sparring. I must say some of the lower weight matches pre 1930 were fantastic action matches.

Dundee was similar to Greb, but was able to actually land hard punches while jumping around the opponent. Both were throwing a lot of swings and hooks with open glove from all possible and impossible angles. Do the clips you have have him fighting like that? If so, you can get a good idea of Greb's style too.

    Bumping this thread.
So that some fresh eyes to the site may see the topic, only way footage will ever be found is if more people are made aware of the situation.
I find it odd that both Greb and Rosenbloom have 0 fights known to exist today to the public out of 600 fights.
Any chance some big tv or film executive liked these two fighters and bought up all the rights and nitrate film rolls of them for a private collection in the 30s-40s?
