...when that first bell goes, especially when they are scoring a bout?

People say they are neutral about a bout because they don't support or show any interest in either boxer. But whenever I'm sitting and watching/scoring a bout with two boxers I show no interest in, or maybe don't even know. From that first round, I almost instantly pick my favourite...whether it is based on style, etc, I don't know. But I pick a favourite, and I have no doubt given very close rounds to said favourite boxer.

What is your opinion on this? Can there be a completely neutral spectator/judge.

i think yes. if you're a judge you must be neutral sadly some judges are cooking the score cards.

I usually find myself rooting for the underdog.

I think so. I do the same as you. Pick a fav or at least make a prediction which i would then like to see come true but I think i can still keep a neutral perspective because even tho i might want one guy to win i don't particularly care unless I know the guy or have money involved.

Absolutely. 90% of the time I don't care who wins or loses and all I want to see is a good fight. If a fighter I usually prefer is fighting like a woman then I'm not going to root for him out of some sort of deluded loyalty. I just don't understand these idiotic fanboys who support a fighter like a football team.

on fighters i don't know, I'm neutral for the first 4 rounds. after that, I unintentionally pick a fighter i disgust (based on the performance), and my scorecard goes against that fighter

Sometimes I'm neutral, sometimes I root for the underdog, sometimes for the favorite, sometimes I shift mid fight.

I always try to score a fight as neutral as possible, but if one of my favorites fights I tend to give swing rounds to them (try not to).
In the RBR's here on ESB I see guys score rounds completely the other way round because their favorite boxer is fighting. Don't know wich fight it was last month, but the guy took a beating and some bloke scored all the rounds in his favour :D

imo, judges will always have preferences or personal biases that will dictate what he puts a premium on when scoring.

Does this effect your scoring in any way? Close rounds, etc...

I try to be as neutral as possible, but if I favour one fighter over the other (usually what happens whether I know them or not)...very close rounds will either be a draw or I will give them to my favourite (Just to clarify, I don't give every close round to favoured boxer).

To be honest, I don't really score fights the first time I watch them. I'll usually just watch it first, and see how it unfolds. If it's goes to the cards or there is some other controversy involving scores (cuts etc) then I will go back and score it.

Just the way I've always done it.
