ive been educateing myself on nutrtion lately and ive noticed that even junk foods have there uses. Do you believe that theres such things as "bad" foods. If not id be interested in seeing your reasoning behind that to see if it matches mine
There are definitely foods that are not as good as others. With equal caloric intake Brussels Sprouts will always be better than Snickers. Whether it's truly bad for you, I think depends on how well the individual tolerates certain foods. Some of us don't tolerate carbs very well and consequently can't eat grains or sugar without a severe negative reaction. I know others who can throw down a tons of sugar without the same effect. All in all high glycemic foods cause inflammation and will eventually catch up with a person as they age and cause detrimental health effects. But if your goal is to build muscle quickly spiking your insulin after a workout can help -- I wouldn't recommend that for a boxer though.
How does one explain the diet of the bare-knuckle guys? They ate lamb chops for breakfast, steak for lunch and dinner. And they fought for real to the finish fights. I suspect that many of them died young, or relatively so, but is that due to diet, finish fights, or heavy drinking/
But actually alcohol is a bad food. My fitness goes to hell when I drink. Get fat too from eating all that greasy food for hangovers.
Some foods have very little or no nutritional value whatsoever and the whole point of eating is it get sustenance. So some foods are clearly better than others in nutritional terms. But there are also some ingredients in foods which would place foods into the bad food category. Trans fats are a good example of this. Man made, not present in nature and not required for anything by the human body like other fats and has well known negative effects on LDL and HDL cholestrol. High Fructose corn syrup is also another man made ingredient which I would classify as being pretty bad. Totally unnecessary when we have countless other natural sweetners and unlike most sugars is processed by the liver causing liver damage and high levels of triglycerides which of course leads to cardiovascular disease.
Everything needs to be put into context, that's the biggest problem with most people talking about 'clean'/'dirty'
I agree with you completely by the way people get very hung up on good/bad I've been guilty of that in the past myself. Its all part of this idea of trying to simplify **** so that there is one optimum way to train and one optimum diet.
Ah, I thought you were going to go on about how much of a dick I am because I call out the traditional bull**** myths and couldn't be bothered to argue :good It's almost daily where I find myself explaining to people "Carbs before bed isn't going to make you fat". :-(patsch
Its all good I guessed thats what you thought I was doing when I saw your reply. It seems to me that people overcomplicate nutrition via simplifying aspects into loads of little rules like "carbs before bed" "good foods/bad foods" Please stick with it and ignore some of the idiots on here, I don't wanna be an arselick but you're one of the guys that is a real credit to the training forum. We seem to have lost lefty who was a great source of help on here for people like me who are pretty clueless.
Have you ever seen the show "Super Size Me"? It is a documentary that a guy named Morgan Spurlock did back in 04. For a month all he ate was McDonald's fast food. He had to go through the entire menu during that time and ate it 3 times a day for his only food intake. He gained 25 lbs., his cholesterol level went above 230, Triglyceride levels also went up to dangerously high levels and he suffered from sexual dysfunction. I believe he was in his early 30's when he did this. Yes, there are bad foods. One of my favorites is real Cracklin' like I can get anytime I want, but it's not good to eat deep fried pork fat highly seasoned with salt and peppers.
Cheers mate, really appreciate that actually :good He ate like 5,000kcal per day, did **** all and people were surprised he got fat and developed health problems. It was stupid.
sugary breakfast cereals are seen as bad. but after a hard training session they do the same job most recover supps do imo
