Is this a bad list? What would you change?

    i retire in 12 years.i think dempsey wouldn't get in a top 20 in a sane persons list.

    Let's look how they fared against their mutual opponents:

    Osscie Ocasio:

    Lewis: Won a decision
    Holyfield: Won by TKO

    Bear in mind Holyfield faced Ocasio 3 years EARLIER.


    Francois Botha:
    Both won by TKO.


    Ray Mercer:
    Both won decisions.


    Hasim Rahman:

    Lewis: KOed by Rahman. KOed Rahman in rematch.
    Holyfield: Holy won a TD. (wasn't KOed like Lennox LOL)

    Sometimes. Haven't seen him around for a while.
    turpinr has 'spoon in the top 12. He also rates Lewis at the top, with Ali.

    Fair enough.

    He was champion for 5 years. I think he's got a comparable resume to Johnson anyway.

    Holyfield BEAT Cooper. Yes, Cooper was a substitute with a spotty record but he was in-shape and came to fight, was in a good period of his career, and could hit. Holyfield got careless against a lesser opponent, had a rough moment but won the fight.
    Lewis LOST to Rahman. He didn't beat the count.

    The fighters each beat are comparatively close at heavyweight. Its 13 to 10 for the amount of champions beat, but thats not delving into how far past their primes some of them were. As far as advantages......Do you think the steroids delivered to Evan Fields were ever an advantage? Before you bother saying there is no proof...you're right. But there is plenty of circumstantial evidence. AND the heavyweight division has never been as much about who's bigger as who's better. There is plenty of history to back that up.

    You must consider this whole forum insane then.
    How many don't have Dempsey in their top 20 ?
    I guess the likes of frankenfrank and mister are more to your liking.

    Im not excusing Lewis, only comparing the situation here. Rahman also came in great shape while Lewis hardly trained. Om sure Holy would have dispatched with Cooper much easier had they rematched.But we know for a fact how much better a fighter Lewis actually was compared to Rahman because they DID rematch.

    I don't understand that reasoning.
    Lewis went 1-1 with Rahman.
    How's that better than going 1-0 ?

    Even Maskaev went 2-0 against Rahman.

    Its not the record, but the circumstances. Cooper was never more than a journeyman/fringe contender who should have never bothered Evander at all in my opinion. Rahman was a ranked contender who Lewis simply didn't train for. Thats his own fault, but not a true indicator of who the better fighter was. The rematch should have dispelled any notion Rahman could ever hang with a properly trained Lewis is all Im saying.

    and I agree with this wholeheartedly on the flipside - I find it difficult to seperate Lewis and Holy but neither are top 10 IMO

    Bert Cooper was not much worse than Rahman, and a decent fighter when he wasn't just there to pick up some cash for his cocaine party.

    No. He could hang with him.
    Because he basically knocked Lewis out with one punch, so he's only ever one punch away from doing so. And Lewis wasn't untouchable even at his best.
    A third match would have gone some way in proving what you seem take for granted, but Rahman didn't have the same rematch clauses and legalities that Lewis enforced on him.
