thats what kellerman said...... and all of the people that said "a pivot is what makes a check hook"... I didnt see a pivot... I saw a hook come in as the other guy was attacking... Gamboa leans back as he comes in , throws the check hook and leaps back.... just like Wlad did to Peter

Technically speaking, of course it is. It might not have been aesthetically pleasing as floyd vs hatton but the whole point is using your opponents momentum against them as you evade their incoming and hook them.

Right I think I'm convinced it is a check hook and they do occur much more often than I had previously thought.

My only problem with Widdow Maker is that if Wlad had roundhouse kicked Peter he would have still said it was a check hook.

It's a great discussion, alright it's only filled with opinion and not much fact but it's still interesting.

It's about anticipation. Wlad knew exactly what Peter was about to do as soon as Peter lurched forward... That is the point of a check hook. You check them before their punch gets to you... then you avoid their shot when it does.

If you wait until their shot gets off, then block, move, or parry then throw back... that's just a standard counter. A true counter punch is off the theory of making them miss, THEN making them pay. A check hook is when you check them BEFORE their punch ever reaches you. It's all about anticipation of what they are going to do next... and checking them with your hook first... then avoiding what is coming at you... that is a check hook.

Gamboa also anticipated that Solis was going to follow up with that big overhand right... and got his punch off a split second earlier to check him. Same exact thing.

No, I am being honest when I say that I have NO idea what you are talking about. I haven't been reading any of your responses until now. Just as you clearly avoided every extremely simple point that I made from the start. Just as you have also avoided every single good point that everyone in this thread has made if they were supporting the fact that it is a check hook.

I stand by what I said. It's a check hook. All of the knowledgable responses have agreed with me. I really don't care what a bunch of other fake boxing fans think.... or people like yourself who just want to come on here and troll.

BTW, you started this thread because you know damn well there are so many Wlad haters out there that they were going to say it wasn't a check hook no matter what they actually thought.

If Wlad would have thrown a round house kick... I would have said it was a round house kick. That would have been pretty impressive, and obvious. I called it a check hook... because it's a check hook. Just as many knowledgable posters have also came on here and explained. I am the one who presented that GIF in the first place, describing it as a check hook... BECAUSE it was a check hook. Why would I have bothered to go find that gif, and show it in that thread... if I wasn't certain? If I didn't know what it was?
