Mind you if the Wiki page is correct then the only example of a check hook I think I've ever seen is Mayweather's on Hatton because I can't think of anyone else sailing past their opponent like Hatton did.

Agreed. Plus, he actually has a reason to be pivoting since there is still incoming. Hatton is already finished before Floyd can even complete the move.

Okay, you guys have a point. It's still splitting hairs, but I'm converted.

Nevertheless Floyd was KD'ed even though it wasnt called so it definetely carried power.

    Check hook
Check hook after a side step
Also known as France: Crochet en riposte lors du relâchement post-attaque
    Focus Striking

In boxing, a check hook is employed to prevent aggressive boxers from lunging in. There are two parts to the check hook. The first part consists of a regular hook. The second, trickier part involves the footwork. As the opponent lunges in, the boxer should throw the hook and pivot on his left foot and swing his right foot 180 degrees around. If executed correctly, the aggressive boxer will lunge in and sail harmlessly past his opponent like a bull missing a matador. This is rarely seen in professional boxing as it requires a great disparity in skill level to execute. Floyd Mayweather, Jr. demonstrated a picture perfect example of this punch against Ricky Hatton in their 2007 encounter. Ricky Hatton was caught with the check hook as he was lunging in; Hatton continued forward as he was knocked off balance and proceeded to ram his head into the ring post as Floyd Mayweather stepped out of harm's way. When interviewed, Mayweather stated that he was taught the check hook in the Michigan amateurs.

An excellent example of what is not a check hook was thrown by Wladimir Klitschko against Samuel Peter: Check Hook Anyone who thinks this is a check hook knows nothing about boxing.

It is a check hook. Not the most graceful follow up footwork, but considering the man's size? A thing of beauty.

IMHO, the movement after is cool, but not necessary. Especially if it was as brutally effective as Wlad's was.

Just to make sure my understanding of a check hook was correct, I looked it up and found the following quote on wiki:

Sorry if someone's already posted this, but which one of you ****ers did this? Lol

This thread proves my theory that Klitschko fans knowledge of boxing is abysmal. They are blinded by their love for the Klits. :blabla

Widdow maker u owned yourself in this thread. Calling everyone else ignorant, you think ur the only one to have laced up?
    :rofl:rofl
This punch is open to interpretation. To claim you know one way or the other and that everyone else is wrong is, well, pretty foolish and immature.

From what i was taught the check hook is thrown off the back foot. This seems to me just a normal left hook thrown at the same time as Peter's. The punch is not a reaction to anything Peter has thrown and Wlad is not in a defensive stance. Normal left hook imo.

That is quality how the wiki page changed.

I wonder how it works? Similar to Valuev getting an extra nickname (Sugar)

If the person responsible is reading please can they change the result from Lewis TKO6 Vitali to Vitali EVT6 Lewis.
