Wlad and Peter throw left hooks at exactly the same time, Wlad's lands and then he jumps back. That's not a check hook.

Mayweather anticipates Hatton's hook, then throws a hook and pivots away - check hook.

    There are massive differences.

I never learned something specifically called a check hook seems like it's just a hook thrown when someone's leaning in and simultaneously doing a quarter or half turn.

Nice attempt at educating keyboard warriors, but I am afraid it's a bit hard to understand for someone that never boxed.

The concept of doing only what needs to be done evades those who only WATCH the fights (someone don't even watch them for that matter). They firmly believe that if Tyson did it (Mayweather, Whitaker, etc) then everyone has to do it that way, no matter the reach, position or circumstance. :patsch

You don't know what a pivot is, do you?

So, Mayweather planted his left foot... and pivoted on that planted left foot, whild swinging his right foot around? If you saw that... then you have been watching something different than anyone else.

Or is this your "new" definitely of a check hook? The new ESB definition? That wouldn't surprise me.

Also... Wlad wasn't anticipating Peter's left hook? Amazing how he knew to immediately leap back away... so odd. He must just have the fastest reflexes in boxing. So fast, that he knew he had to do it before Peter even attacked. Wlad was ALREADY leaning back away when he threw his CHECK HOOK. I love how Wlad didn't know any better... but somehow you have Mayweather "anticipating".... and even "pivoting" which he clearly didn't do.

You guys are too much. This reminds me why I don't bother with the General forum much anymore. Boxing fans in general are the most ignorant fans of any major sport. Most people who call themselves boxing fans have absolutely no clue what the hell they are talking about, and usually just follow a certain boxer, or set of boxers due to their location or ethnic backrounds. These people generally don't have a ****ing clue about anything.

It's funny... I'm a white guy from Ohio. Yet, I my favorite current fighters are White guys from the Ukraine, A black guy from the United States, A couple of Mexicans, a guy from the Philippines, a guy from Argentina, and a few Puerto Ricans. I have no ties to any ethnic, nationalistic or racial pride. I don't give a **** about any of that stuff, which ALWAYS gives me a leg up on the rest of boxing fans as a whole. Especially the guys who only followed boxing for Lennox Lewis... and have all become Haye fans... or didn't follow boxing at all.... and have now become Haye fans.:yep

I don't know why I try either. :-( I guess I just believe in honesty too much, and think that people will see things in a reasonable, realistic manner... and be able to understand the truth. It never happens that way though.

If any of yous homos sawz a real check hook it would turn your skin inside out and melt your brain.

Mayweather's check hook was just like seeing the big toe of God...we are lucky we dont' have grey hair after witnessing it, like Moses and the burning bush.

One thing I've learned from talking to women is that there are people in this world that are impossible to reason with. You can have the best arguments, facts, photographs and even video, but in the end you're still an *******.

Some posters on this site are like that. And not a damn thing you can do about it :tired

Have you never seen Wlad fight before?

He always jumps back after punching. Or alternatively leaps in and holds.

    textbook check hook:nut

you don't know **** you dumb *******. don't you see Wlad putting himself off balance because he gets such awful leverage in that hook? he occasionally throws the "get away from me" jabs and he gets away with using them because he's half a foot taller than everybody else. I've seen better technique from 16 year old amateurs.

someone posted Degale throwing counter hooks against Smith. you've no doubt followed his career being the self-professed boxing guru you are. that's a kid with less than 15 fights who already looks far more impressive than Wlad skillwise

Obviously check hooks were invented by Floyd Mayweather and only he has the privilege and the technical ability to perform one. Seeing as how Wladimir Klitschko is not Floyd, there's no way that punch is a check hook. If Wlad ever becomes a black american we can revisit this discussion. Until then, he's simply not technically skilled.

Widdow Maker using "I know more than all of you put together" routine . . .

You're STILL ignoring two things I've asked you over and over. You can spend time writing 5 paragraph long posts calling everyone else an idiot and claiming you know more than us all combined, yet you keep ignoring two very simple things i've asked.

1 - Is Pacquiao's 'right hook, roll under' a check hook, like the one which KD Hatton? because by your definition in this thread it certainly is.

2 - In the other thread when I pointed out that Wlad's punch was not a check hook and both his feet were planted, you posted Mayweather's gif and said both of his feet are planted too. I pointed out that they wasn't planted at all - now in this thread you've said several times that his feet are moving.

How can you have two completely different interpretations of the same bit of film over two different threads? Why the inconsistency if your argument is so solid - why do you first try arguing that his feet are planted, and then back track and niw admit that they're moving?

When you're a biased idiot, anything is possible.
