Isn't it just a counter hook as in "check mate *****" ?

 

Wlad has both feet planted when he throws the hook, then he moves. I've thought the evasion has to take place during the hook

 

No it isnt, mainly because of the movement of his feet and body after the punch was landing/landed

 

from sources in the GF apparently only floyd can perform the check hook with his unmatched ability and timing

I have clearly said time and time again that neither Wlad's nor Mayweathers is what you would call a textbook check hook. Neither of them followed the proper technique after the hook in order for it to be considered a textbook check hook. However, both threw the hook, as a check hook... and both got the desired result of a check hook by getting the hell out of the way afterard. So.. it's a damn check hook.:yep The only thing that NEITHER of them did was plant the left foot.. and pivot on the planted foot swinging their right foot around to the side. Neither of them did that... but you don't have to if you get the same result either way. Either they are both check hooks, or neither of them are check hooks. They can decide.

we have watched that fight so many times in training camp..... every boxer we have had in for sparring and coaches have all said.."WOW, what a check hook":deal

PIVOT does make or break a check hook... its about the lean back and throw at the time your aggressor is moving in and throwing

 

After Wlad plants Haye on his face with one. Larry Merchant can ask Haye afterward if it was a check hook... or just a standard hook, with immediate movement afterward. He can then ask him how much of a difference it made for Wlad to leap back, and see Haye swing into thin air and collapse... rather than pivoting to the side.

Yeah but what do boxing professionals and trainers know anyways? Clearly the ESB General Forum knows better than them because they disagree. Obviously those boxers and trainers need to start coming to ESB for technical advice. Just ask shaunster101... he will probably start a poll about it. Trust me... It seems to me the requriement for a "True" Check Hook is a half blind Ricky Hatton leaping into your punch like a ****** on crack.
