Part of the problem is these monsters are super heavyweight. It's getting near impossible (except upset) for a less than 6 feet 4 to compete for a belt. That means a smaller, faster, more skilled fighter, let's say a new Mike Tyson, is quickly out of the equation. They are just too big. Yes we are going to see a smaller puncher rocking the big guy from time to time, but he ain't gonna stay there for long. No small man can beat Joshua, Wilder, Fury back to back. Impossible if the big guy camps behind his jab and clinches the whole fight.
I’ve been hearing this since Lennox Lewis retired. Yet, we had fighters like Vitali, Wladimir, Fury, Wilder, Povetkin, Haye, Valuev, Rahman, Usyk(unproven yet, but soon to be), Joshua, Whyte, Ortiz, Ruiz, Stiverne, Arreola, Byrd, John Ruiz, Brewster, Golota, Briggs, Liakovich and whoever else I’m missing. Sure, this is no “fabulous four” era, but it’s not nearly as bad as promoted by the public continuously since 2004.
Joshua and Wilder aren’t the first in the history of the sport to lose and aren’t the first to come back from a loss either. Losing is not a death sentence as everyone so dramatically thinks it is when it happens. Literally every single ATG out there has a loss and many unavenged too. I suggest rather than looking at it like “Wilder lost, division dead” you ought to think “Fury won, division is looking good”.
With all due respect real fight fans shouldn’t trash the fighters who fight today , I see that on here . This tells me they haven’t accomplished much in life and why you as a champion understand not to do that bc they are also discrediting you .so you don’t do that . I never understood the weak era arguments because if you are the top guy there’s always someone you had to win a champion belt from who cant be weak in most cases .
It depends entirely on whom the fighters are fans are trashing. For instance, not only is it acceptable to trash Clenelo Alvaroids, Bootleg D, Danny ''The Six-toed Lego Hair Freak'' Garcia, Caleb Plant, Gary ''The Horse Toothed Leprechaun'' Russell Jr., Teofimo ''Pebble Head'' Lopez, and Broner and his beau Twink Davis it should be mandatory. Whereas, conversely, trashing The Usyk God, Loma, Michael ''The Bounty Hunter,'' or Inoue, should be strictly verboten and a perma-bannable offence IMO.
Every era will be weak except the one with Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Tyson, Holyfield, Lennox. If they're not fighting, then it's a bad era. These are the heroes all the sportswriters hack their desperate odes to and lift to legendary status so that never again can the 'golden era' be repeated. You'll notice a few patterns in the line-up. Let's now consider some of the losses these legends of the strong era took. >Ali lost to a sub 6ft slugger in Frazier. Who the hell would lose to Joe Frazier now at HW, even if you gave him a few inches due to modern conditions? Not even Joshua. >Frazier lost to a guy who lost to a sub 6ft slugger, lol. Frazier would simply be terminated by current HWs. Some clowns actually think he could beat a Klitschko or Fury. >Foreman was KO'd by a 'featherfist' during his prime. >Holyfield lost to a former MW. >Mike Tyson lost twice to a guy who lost to a blown up MW. > Lewis at 25-0 lost to McCall, a short HW who already have a handful of losses.
Compare Ring's ratings with the best from '08, it's certainly not 'far' better than it, imo, if it all. Now Tyson Fury Anthony Joshua Dillian Whyte Deontay Wilder Luis Ortiz Andy Ruiz Alexander Povetkin Joseph Parker Micheal Hunter Adam Kownackilol Oscar Rivas 08 Wladimir Klitschko Vitali Klitschko Ruslan Chagaev Alexander Povetkin Nikolay Valuev Sultan Ibragimov Samuel Peter Oleg Maskaev Juan Carlos Gomez Alexander Dimitrenko
