Is this at least the second best era ever for the HW division?

Tyson got beat by Journeymean when he was an old man after 20 yrs as a pro, Wlad got his ass kicked by journeymen when he was in his prime, big difference nuthugger.

Foreman got lucky against glass jawed Moorer, but at 45 he wasn't very good, he just had that 1 good win, Shultz, Morrison, Briggs, and Saverese all gave him hell and they were not elite. As for Holyfield he has actaully did much better against Ibrigamov and SNV, than he did against Byrd and Toney. And lets not even get started on Briggs and Maskiev.

 

Same thing happened with Secondo Carnera and his big brother. :verysad

The average heavyweight weighs more because he is generally 3 or 4 inches taller. Why are Wlad and Vitali so much heavier than Louis? Because of height. Neither of them are built like bodybuilders, they are just athletic 6'6.5/6'7.5 guys.

No decade is worse? How about the 60s and the decades before it. You might not find current heavyweight boxing very exciting but that's your problem

90's wasnt bad either

this is a good era i think its just the champs are far ahead of the challengers

 

This is the worse era ever for Hw's.

 

There are a lot of really good HWs but bcause the Klitchkos are so outstanding they are made to look nothing special.

Rate them? There are 4 I have never even heard of before.

Pianetia? Isn't that like a donkey made out of paper mache?

 

You have to expand your mind a little, believe it or not there is actually good fighters outside of the Anglosphere.

 

Chambers - No. He would either be overpowered or outworked by most at the top, especially during the 70s/80s with the superior workrate of the times.
Helenius - Probably not, ask me in a few years.
Povetkin - Probably not, see above.
Boystov - No. He just isn't good enough at any department really.
Chagaev - No, but I could see him being a tough contender at the bottom of the top 10/15 in most eras.
Peters - No, just no.
Gomez - A younger Gomez, perhaps. The version we've seen in the heavyweight division, no.
Arreola - I genuinely feel there are eras he could have done very well in. So I'll let this one pass.

Also, I think Tony Thompson would be a decent contender in most eras.
