Low risk high reward for wlad. Wlad got nothing to lose but a chance to win a belt and 20M pounds.
High risk high reward for Joshua. He can lose but a win can make him a big star.

Good analysis, you've convinced me a good bit on the financial point. Still, don't you think, even if AJ loses by ko, an AJ vs Haye fight in 6 months as a rebound for both fighters would do better money than any other fight of Ajs besides Wlad? And, if he won that (and while I'm sure Hayes dedicated fans and and haters would disagree, it's hard to imagine AJ not beating Haye), I think it would rebuild the interest in him to nearly what it is now, at least domestically.

 

High risk for Joshua because if he loses the hype dies down a little. Low risk for Wlad because he's at the end of his career.

 

I agree, of course there is a way back and the one you outline is a good route should he need it. Thing is Joshua is convinced he will beat Wlad - he claims it's his job to make him look like a novice which hints at overconfidence - so I also wonder how much a psychological scar losing might leave? He's put a lot of pressure on himself if he expects to deliver a beatdown. Of course, I cannot know what he really thinks but all these pressure points might boil over all at the same time, on fight night. We've all seen it happen before. Time will tell and all that...
