post from another site and....atsch "So this may come across as a kinda ****ty, annoying topic, but what I wanted to talk about is the overemphasis that people put on technique in training, not in the rule of the judge but in the role of the student, trying to find out more about this, the motivation behind it, etc. So what you often see is a typical question given by a new fighter of any style, "How can I get better power", or, "How can I get better speed." The response is almost always, "Train with good technique and the rest will come naturally." Now this is all well and good, don't get me wrong, technique is very important. This holds especially true with simple, straightforward techniques, an elbow, a knee, some kicks, every single punch found in boxing. There are of course also many techniques that you simply would not be able to pull off in any serious altercation, anything in aikido for instance, and a hell of a lot more in silat than many would like to admit (To whom it may concern: Sorry, I'm not sure who you are but I'm sure there are some of you ****s on this forum lurking, waiting for me to slip up.). "Basically what I want to say is, do we really think technique is that important? I mean, lets put it like this, if I want power, I'll hit the bag and the pads hard, and do explosive exercises, that's a much better use of my time than throwing my kick over and over again, perfecting it until I'm dripping with sweat, **** not to boast but I think my natural power is pretty good too, so do alot of top contenders out there (Not implying I am a top contender.). I have nothing against technique and I like to think I have mine down, but why is everyone so obsessed with it. It seems like the kind of thing you do because all your ***** friends on reddit do, something you do to follow the crowd, because everyone says it works, not cause it actually works all that great. I once met a dude who said that proper technique was worth more than all the heavybagwork, endurance, strength training, and conditioning (I.e. the ability to stand and take a good old fashioned ass-whooping.) in the world. Like, what is this ****? Anyway I'd just like to get your views on it, is all." clueless
