Is this heavyweight division the best since the 90's?

I'm watching heavyweights at the moment and there seems to be a lot of talent out there.

    1. Fury
    2. Klitschko
    3. Ortiz
    4. Povetkin
    5. Wilder
    6. Joshua
    7. Parker
    8. Jennings
    9. H. Fury
    10. Martin

That's my top 10 right there. Martin is lucky to get in it but he has a title so I thought I would place him in. Anyway pretty much any of these against each other should create a great fight (other than Klitschko vs. Fury lol) I really rate them all of this list. A lot of ability there.

I'm not sure if more competitive translates to better. What is certain is that I'm following it with a lot more interest. Also Pulev is a top 10 fighter for certain.

Yes I think that's a fair statement. Best since the 90's.

It's the most competitive since the 90's with no dominant champion and the titles split. But I wouldn't say it's better.

Fury's only good wins are over Chisora and an old Wlad, which while good is hardly a deep resume.

Wilder has been protected and been made to look ordinary by C level fighters.

Martin was very lucky to win a title.

Povetkin is good, has some good wins but he's not getting any younger and may only have a couple good years left in him.

Ortiz only one win of note over Jennings.

Joshua and Parker are exciting prospects but have a lot to prove. Neither have proven themselves as world class yet, let alone prove they deserve their rankings.

Time will tell, this era maybe a strong era like the 90's or may just be full of soon to be exposed fighters. But at least it's going to be entertaining.

Yeah I can co-sign that. At the end of the day is hard to compare eras. But the last one was pretty dull, most people agree on that. There were not a lot of even match ups at the top. This era will bring some attention back to boxing in my humble opinion. Especially in England where the sport is having a real renaissance as of late.

This is a great hw era, I'd say easily the best h2h of all era's.

    We have these legit players

Joshua - proven to me that he's the complete package

Wilder-proven to have great speed, power, stamina with only the chin questions, all questions are from people on here.

Ortiz-real tough out, no matter what

Haye-love how he came back 15 lbs of needes weight.

Parker-everyone seems to think highly of him but I haven't seen it yet.

Fury- tough out for most, joshua, Wilder and Haye ko him guaranteed.

    Still some players coming up.

Those 5 right there make it a great era

Add Haye into the mix, and Dillian Whyte if he disciplines himself.
This is a good division. Usyk will eventually join these guys. I'd love to see Usyk-Haye though before Haye is finished.

The 1990's of HW boxing? The decade where a 45-year old dominated until he was robbed of a win at age 48 :!:

Nah, you are just happy because there are some guys on top that you like.

If Wlad wins the Fury rematch, I'm sure we'll be back to "worst division ever" talk.

Exactly. The 90s was mediocre at best. Axel Schulz (who?) got not one but THREE title shots. 48 year old George Foreman won the lineal title. Fat South African Frans Botha got two title shots. McCall came straight out of drug rehab and got a WBC title shot.

The 90s was not great at all. Today is definitely not worse than the 90s.

I definitely think so, I started getting hopeful a year or so ago and the direction it is heading is fantastic - I don't think it has peaked yet, but it's already as interesting as it has been in a decade or so.

Yeah, but the decade of the '90s only came to a close 16 years ago...
