I see John Murray is fighting in the states on friday night. The show will be televised in the states by Telefutura. Sounds good, but hes facing a guy whose fought as low as a super-bantamweight during his career! & hes lost NINE of his last eleven fights! Im sick & tired of hearing how good Murray is, when hes fighting chumps like this. I mean Murray is 22-0 now, isnt it time he fought somebody who can hit back a little?
Good fight last time out against Hickman. this is good exposure and good networking. last time out he sparred with mosley and DLH, so in all i think appearing on a goldenboy card is good for John.
due to the little time they had between his last fight and dec 7th i'm sure it was the best opponent murrays people couldnt muster up.
i don't think the fight will do murray any harm, especially as he's had a "proper" fight recently which has established him in the domestic mix. all this fight will do is give him another chance to get his name out in preparation for the time he is finally ready to step up to the world scene.
Murray will gain valuable exposure in the US from this fight with the added bonus that he may well pick up some more fans amongst the brits who will be in Vegas attending this bill. As has already been mentioned, he has fought recently (early Nov) and put on a very impressive display when he clinched the English Title against Hickman. My understanding is that someone else was in the frame to fight Murray so perhaps they have had to come up with this opponent at short notice. The mexican he is going to face is more experienced and has been described as a hard hitter despite his losses (13 of his 16 wins by way of KO). I hope Murray puts on a good performance to end the year on a high.
I agree, most of his opposition is ****ing horrible and at 22-0 he needs steps up in class, tough tests that ensure he does not get lax and slack in training, his career is not progressing at all.
I can never work out why Khan gets critisized for his opponents, whereas someone like John Murray,Kevin Mitchell etc who are someway older, never seem to!! Murray has been fighting geniune bums, and Mitchell has basically stood still for two years
Rumoured to be defending the English Title against John Fewkes next. I disagree about his career not progressing at all - may not be as rapid as he and others wish but another recently acquired Title under his belt and headlining in Vegas is a step in the right direction.
Murray gets his fair share of criticism too - usually in Khan threads! I think they are both great young prospects and its a shame that, all too often, we get posts about one of them at the expense of the other.
It's to do with hype , the less hype you have about you the less criticism you get for your lack of accomplishments . The more hype , the more criticism(if you don't live up to it) and deservedly so . Doesn't help when Amir Khan talks about beating Mayweather in 4 rounders . The funny thing about Murray and Mitchell is that the best opponent that they've fought between them is Nacho Mendoza and Murray foguth him 2 years ago . However both are on the right track again , Mitchell is taking on Carl Johanneson for the British Superfeatherweight title and Murray having won the English Lightweight title is looking to take on Thaxton sometime next year . Being in the spotlight less will mean you are critisized less , and Khan has been shoved in our faces from day 1 .
looks like murray only just scraped through this fight! mexican / american journeymen are just 10 times our equivalents in terms of the threat they provide.
