Is this fighter's record the strongest ever?

    Tunney
    Loughran
    Slattery
    T Gibbons
    M Gibbons
    Wilson
    Flowers
    Norfolk
    Allentown Joe Gans
    Brennan
    Madden
    Gunboat Smith
    Downey
    Mantell
    Bogash
    Ratner
    Renault
    Mctigue
    McCoy
    Levinsky
    Rosenbloom
    Dillon
    O Dowd
    Chip
    McGoorty
    Jeff Smith
    Walker
    1 Heavyweight Champ
    6 L Heavy Champs
11 Claimants to Middle weight Title
    1Welter Champ

At least 7 ATG's on the list. And usually conceding weight to his opponents ,anything up to 30lbs.

    Well, what do you say?

De La Hoya's resume must have as many ATG's, if not more?

    And more title holders?

I think that it is between this resume and a certain Mr Samuel Langford Esq.

thats well in excess of 100 fights against the best middles, light heavies and heavies. Plenty of Hall of Famers as well.

    73–35-22 (1 NC) = 131

He also fought the following boxers that were rated in the Top 10 at one time or another.

    Young Johnny Burns – 0-0-1

    Battling Bozo – 1-0-3
    Patsy Perroni - 1-0-0

    106-39-26 (1 NC) = 172

That is by far the most Top 10 contenders that 1 boxer ever fought. The next highest is 109. If you go by percentage wise, Ali is on top with over 80% (49 out of 61).

He also beat Ted Kid Lewis, BUT even though Lewis was a Champion, he was never rated in the Top 10 by Ring because they didn't have ratings until 1925 and Lewis was past his prime by then.

Isn't that a bit obvious in the era of multiple champs and paper belts?

It would look fantastic if most had been legitimate WINS. Not ND, NC etc.

I wont bother taking time to look mate, but I'd freely suggest there'd no more than 10 KO's in the list also.

Not to mention most, if not all would have been over the 10 round distance.

I feel guilty enough when its slips out when I'm typing it on ESB. When did the fights in a boxers career stop being his "record"?

    Impressive stuff hhascup, thank you.

I still plump for Langford though. Started at 140 beat great heavyweights. These things are relative.
