Is this the end in Thailand for boxing ?

If no Thai manages to win a world title before 2025, can we say that this is the end of Thailand in boxing? Or will they remain solely at continental level, which seems difficult even for the new generations to reach? Or do you think that a new pool of promising youngsters will emerge despite the revival of Muay Thai via the One Championship, which prevents transitions to boxing because it pays so much better?

Despite the efforts of Petchyndee and NKL, so far it's been a total failure.

- Thananchai Charunphak "Thananchai NKL" vs Seigo Yuri Akui for the WBA World Fly Championship = very close fight but the Japanese retained his title by split decision.


- Petchyndee boxer Tasana Salapat "Petch CP Freshmart" or "Petch Sor Chitpattana" vs Junto Nakatani for the WBC Rooster Championship: despite a strong performance, the Thai lost by TKO round 6.


- Chainoi Worawut NKL boxer vs Sam Goodman IBF Super Bantamweight world semi-final IBF = the winner faced Naoya Inoue, Chainoi lost in Australia by unanimous decision.




All that remains to be seen is what Panya Pradabsri vs Carlos Canizales will do for the WBC Flyweight championship in November, the WBO Roosters championship for Thai amateur star Yuttapong Tongdee vs Yoshiki Takei on 24 December, and young Petchyndee boxer Anuchai Donsua will have his IBF World Bantamweight vs Ryosuke Nishida on 15 December.

Only Thammanoon Niyomtrong "Knockout CP Freshmart" can potentially save the day by becoming boxing's first partially unified Thai champion vs. Puerto Rican Oscar Collazo in Minimumweight on November 16 (plus there's The Ring Magazine title at stake a first since Ricardo "Finito" Lopez in the category).



And two Prospects who retire unbeaten just before their world chances: Super Lightweight: Phoobadin Yoohanngoh 19-0-0 (10 KOs) & Lightweight: Apichet Petchmanee 16-1-0 (5KOs).



Then there are some veterans who are getting on in years: like Wisaksil Wangek "Srisaket Sor Rungvisai" former two-time WBC World Super Flyweight champion now in Bantamweight division 37 years old, Sukpraserd Ponpitak 36 years old now with the Feathers / Super Feathers, Navapon Khaikanha "Nawaphon Sor Rungvisai" 33 years old former WBC World Fly challenger now with the Bantamweight / Super Bantamweight, Phai Pharob "Paipharob Kokietgym" former WBA Interim Minimumweight World Champion 41 years old now boxing with the Flies / Super Flies, Karoon Jarupianlerd "Petchbarngborn Kokietgym" 39 years old former WBO Super Fly World Challenger now boxing with the Feathers, Suriyan Kaikanha 35 years old "Suriyan Sor Rungvisai" former WBC Super Flies World Champion now boxing with the Super Feathers etc. ..




Only Thanongsak Simsri "KO Artist" & Sukrit Nakpreecha & Wira Mikham (who have his chance for IBO World title the 6th december in Featherweight) look promising for the future, but that's not much for a new generation of boxers when you can name 10-12 veterans easily in Thailand.

 

We must also believe that the fall of the great promoter Kokiet Panichyarom for financial fraud due to cheques to camp owners that the bank refused. The latter had given Thailand immense champions such as Tepparith Kokietgym and Somsak Sithchatchawal.

This created a bit of a mess and made them concentrate more on Muay Thai.

 

Of course yes ! And I hope he will win !

 

Same but we have to be realistic even the continental level is hard if we don't count the veterans...
