Weidman gets too underrated by too many people Romero - was beating the lizard monster until he made a mistake, puting his head on the wrong side for the takedown, and Romero exploded Rockhold - a 50/50 fight until Chris tried some crazy spinning thing which ended up with Rockhold on top of him, and when he gets on top of you you're not getting him off Mousasi - similar thing - highly competitive fight, makes a mistake (the hands down thing) and pays severely for it All 3 of his loses are similar Highly competitive Makes one mistake in all 3 and pays severely He also ruined pre USADA Anderson Silva
Shamrock as an atg middleweight? I think you made a mistake here. Frank's best work, including Tito, was at 205. His middleweight record is pretty $hitty. He was dominated by Renzo, until he knocked Renzo tfo with an illegal knee. He beat Cesar Gracie, in Gracie's only mma fight. His other win was over Phil Baroni. Cung Le and Nick Diaz stopped him. 2-3 with out an impressive win does not make him a great middleweight.
His best work was in the LHW division but he could have made the MW limit and quite often did during that time, h2h he's a beast at MW.
This sport is basically 24 years old. This would be like putting together an all time boxing middleweight list in 1916. This list might change drastically by the end of the year. Anderson Silva- Was once referred to as "The Matrix" Beat Dan Henderson. Dan Henderson- Pride's best at 185. Chris Weidman- Ended Silva's run. Defeated Muñoz, Maia, Machida, Belfort and Gastelum Luke Rockhold- Has held Strikeforce and UFC titles. Robert Whittaker- Defeated Romero and Jacare Yoel Romero- No major title, but has wins over 2 guys that are ranked above him. Jacare- Strikeforce Champ Franklin-UFC Champ Bustamante-UFC Champ, decent Pride wins and performances. Filho- Good run in Pride. 5 of these guys are still active which pretty much confirms we're in the sport's best era of middleweights.
The list changes fight by fight as so many of the greatest ever are currently competing. It's a great time to be a fan.
Rewatched Romero Vs Souza. It was as I remembered it tbh, a very close fight that could have gone either way. Similar to the Rockhold fight. We know over 5 rounds Jacare probably does it cos of Romero's tank issues but this fight specifically was never a robbery. Round 1 was a clear Romero round. Round 3 was a clear Jacare round. Round 2 could have gone either way, the leg kick by Romero at the end was arguably the best moment of the round. It isn't a clear round for either guy. Anything from 2-1 Romero to 2-1 Jacare is fine here. I do now wonder though, over 5 rounds in a rematch would Jacare be favoured.
How'd you score rounds 1 and 3? I scored round one 10-8 for Romero. I thought he had Jacare in serious trouble in the first round. I scored the second for Jacare. The third I scored for Jacare, and was really close to giving him a 10-8. I felt he was a punch or so shy. So I scored it 10-9 Jacare, and saw it as a draw.
That's exactly my assessment. a draw is more than fair but I don't see how it's possible to score it for Romero.
I'm not fully sure on this 10-8 criteria and how it's evolved over the years tbh. I basically score 10-9 unless the guy was almost stopped.
