Is this the worst run of opponents ever for a reigning world champion?

James Toney won the IBF super-middleweight title from Iran Barkley and then his next 10 fights whilst champion were against the following opponents :

    - govoner chavers 9-3-1

    - ricky thomas 11-9-1

    - glen thomas 24-1-0

    - danny garcia 25-9-0

    - larry prather 10-10-0

    - tony thornton 35-5-1

    - anthony hembrick 27-4-1

    - tim littles 24-0-0

    - vinson durham 11-6-1

    - charles williams 36-5-2

Not all these fights were for Toneys world title, yet these were the next 10 opponents an experienced world champion faced.

My question to you is - can you name any world champion in boxing history that has put together a run of fights whilst champion which are as bad or worse as what James Toney did?

BTW, this is not a James Toney bashing thread so please don't get all defensive if you are a fanboy, I just want you to try and find a more embarassing run of 10 opponents if one exists in boxing history?

Hasn't he only made 2 defences with one being against a very good unbeaten fighter in Tony Bellew?

Thats not a realistic answer, can you think of any more pal?

Is there any chance you will put a 10 fight consecutive run up from when Vlad was champion so we can compare?

he did that all in 1 year. they're called stay busy fights. the only way you get better at fighting is to fight. Fighters fight. When fighters fight, they get money. they get a paycheck. builds more of a fanbase. sharpens skill. Showcases skill. Puts on a show. Keeps up the old school way. Plus, mix in Tony Thornton, Tim Littles, Charles Williams, all good opponents.

Joe Calzaghe after winning vacant WBO vs Chris Eubank in 1997 fought 2x in 1998 against Branko Sobot and Juan Carlos Gimenez.

    Just saying.

Hey don't get all defensive buddy, this is not a thread for fanboys getting all upset. I just want to see if anyone can find a run of 10 consecutive opponents from a reigning world champion that were as embarrasing as what James Toney faced when IBF super-middleweight champion. Calzaghe was literally taking homeless drunks off the streets and paying them in liquor and cheeseburgers to put on boxing gloves. And he still couldn't knock them out cold.

That's a **** run of opponents, but bear in mind Toney has had 86 fights. There's some **** opponents, but there's some damn good ones too.
