Is this the worst run of opponents ever for a reigning world champion?

re-read that last paragraph of mine you quoted pal. I'm not here to upset fanboys, I'm just on the look out for champions that put disgraceful runs of opponents together. Hopefully you will contribute something more relevant if you post again pal.

James Toney beat three good fighters in a year, managed to squeeze in three other guys who at least had decent records, and even found time to punch out a few cans on top of all that.

    Legend.

No pal, i'm doing it to improve my boxing knowledge. Can you help me and provide an example of a champion facing 10 worse consecutive opponents?

    Manuel Ortiz:

    Pedro Ramirez 12-10-2

    Joe Robleto 17-16-7

    Lupe Cortez 9-11-5

    Joe Robleto 17-17-7

    Tony Olivera 45-9-10

    Joe Robleto 18-18-7

    Leonardo Lopez 24-13-2

    Fillo Gonzalez 7-14-2

    Leonardo Lopez 24-16-2

    Benny Goldberg 31-0-2

I'm far from an expert on interwar west-coast bantams, but it looks like Manny wasn't exactly swimming with sharks during this period of his reign. Boxrec of course may be incomplete.

    Willie Pep:

    Ralph Walton 14-8-6

Willie Roache 36-40-4 (presumably pre Corrie)

    Phil Terranova 36-11-9

    Paulie Jackson 28-26-3

    Mike Martyk 28-13-3

    Eddie Giosa 31-8-2

    Harold Gibson 15-18

    Jimmy McCallister 38-15

Johnny Virgo 22-8 (presumably pre Big Break)

    Jimmy Joyce 27-28-5

A sorry bunch of journeymen, snooker players and soap actors. I think we could have a winner.

    A challenger appears!

Roberto Duran, as reigning Lightweight champion of the world, faced the likes of:

    Jimmy Robertson: 26-5-1

    Juan Medina: 2-1-0

    Javier Ayala : 16-8-1

    Gerardo Ferrat: 26-9-1

    Hector Thompson: 39-2-2

    Doc McClendon: 11-12-2

    Guts Ishimatsu: 25-10-5

    Tony Garcia: 13-2-4

    Leonard Tavarez: 25-13-5

    Armando Mendoza: 17-3-0

All in the span of a year while being a reigning champion.

Non-title tune ups in between championship bouts were a staple in boxing for almost 100 years, and the majority of the elite fighters in the sport from the 1970's on back partook in these type of fights to replace training camp and sparring. But its' not suprising that your average ESB browser wouldn't to know very basic historical facts about a sport that they masquerade as know-it-alls on.

I already won from a few pages back with Pongsaklek Wonjongkam by far the worst list of opponents during both his title runs.
