Completely different social historical situations. One can be viewed as an effort to help alleviate psychological suffering while the other as merely boasting for boasting's sake.

If indeed Dundee cheated and saved Ali from defeat then Ali didn't deserve to win. On the other hand considering how skillful Ali was in defense and how easily he averted being KO'd by Liston when he was virtually blinded during their first encounter, it is also possible that Ali wasn't really in dire need of Dundee's intervention.

I do agree but if he lost that night things might have been different. He got through the fight and the rest is history.

I don't think it would have changed a thing in regards to Ali's stature. Ali wouldn't have stopped talking and a rematch would have been made in which Ali would probably have beaten the brakes off Cooper in a more brutal fashion. Then maybe a third in which he would have done the same. It would have been a pre Joe Frazier trilogy. Ali was destined for greatness. No stopping that.

Liston never had Ali hurt like Cooper did though. Worst situation Ali was in in his whole career. If Ali was as hurt in the Liston fight I don't think Sonny would have problems stopping him...

If it was, it was the fastest invisible glove change of all time. Run back to the changing room, grab a new glove, rip the old one off, put the new one on......Nah, never happened imo..All in 80 seconds lol

In a world where boxing fans believe that their favorite fighter has never been hurt in sparring, that very few fighters take PED's only Americans and only recently, that only a couple fighters drain to make weight, and that only a couple fighters rehydrate heavily in the 30 hours after weighing in... no way Ali could have possibly been or done anything other than the absolute best and cleanest thing!
