Team Pavlik arrived in Kelly’s dressing room at Boardwalk Hall on Saturday night at 8:45 PM. Several minutes later, Dr. Domenic Coletta of the New Jersey Athletic Control Board came into the room to administer the final pre-fight physical. Everything went according to form until Coletta asked, “Are you on any medication?”

    “Yes, sir.”

    “What for?”

    “Bronchitis.”

    “Did you have a fever?”

    “Not today.”

    “Before today?”

    “A hundred and one degrees.”

    “What have you been taking?”

Mike Pavlik handed a sheet of paper to the doctor. “Here’s what they gave Kelly.”

Coletta scanned the list. Mucinex, penicillin (one shot on Wednesday night), and ciprofloxacin (500 mg twice a day through the day of the fight).

    “How do you feel now?”

    “Okay.”

Is it just me or was it a bad thing to go ahead with that fight? This is the first I have heard of him having the flu. A columnist was in the room when this all transpired.

It wasn't "the flu." It was bronchitis, and I've been harping on this for days. Yes it was a mistake to go ahead with the fight. However, Team Pavlik had several discussions about postponing the fight, but Kelly would not hear of it. He was not willing to disapoint the fans. I also imagine that the $3 million guarantee played a roll in Kelly's choices. It was his mistake, and he has to live with it. And live with it he will. His purse for the Rubio fight is now estimated at half of what it would have been had he won.

Well, he said he was okay, so i don't think this takes anything away from BHOPs victory, i reckon the result would have been the same either way

Feeling "OK" isn't what he should have said. He should have said he feels GREAT! And then we would have had a fight to watch. He figured once the adrenalin started, he'd be OK in the ring. Well, it never happened & Hopkins had a field day.

  7. Whatever:nut if he was ill he's should have pulled out, he didn't and paid the price, no excuses he's a grown man and the captain of his own ship, end of story..

Ah so you talk to Pavlik in real life often, to know how he thinks - must've told you that he only said he was OK because he thought when the adrenaline started ..etc etc.. or maybe you are psychic or you and kelly are kindred spirits.

Why in gods big blue beautiful earth do people do this? You don't know what Kelly thought -- after the fact he said he felt pretty good and he had energy and wasn't tired. Before the fight he said he was ready to go and had big plans and would KO b-hops. Those are his words that he said infront of the whole world.

He also said after the fight that he hoped he felt better once he got in the ring. So as you see, I'm not a mind reader.

But I gotta agree with ya about people saying they know what others are thinking about. It happens all the time on TV with announcers doing a game. Drives me nuts, too.

I'd never think of doing such a thing. Except maybe with Golota, cause NOBODY will even know whats going on in there, so you might as well guess!:yep

It's odd that you would mention accepting facts. It really looks like you're the one who is having a problem with them. The FACTS are that the transcript and medical records say what they say. They say pretty clearly that KP was sick. Live with it.

I'm sure these are mainly the same people that believe AA was sick, not weight drained.
