The biggest one in boxing yet this year? We've got

    Lucian Bute vs Glen Johnson
    Alfredo Angulo vs James Kirkland
    Michael Katsidis

All 3 are big fights for there respective divisions. Of course its debatable just how good Bute is, but the Johnson fight should give us a better measuring stick and if he fights either Kessler or Froch/Ward next we should get a taster of what he can do against a stiffer challenge than he's being facing. For me the winner of Ricky Burns vs Michael Katsidis is top 5 at 135 (its not the strongest division to be fair). Kirkland vs Angulo is a guaranteed barnburner and there about as good as it gets at 154 for me.

    We've also got

    Peter Quillon vs Craig McEwan
    George Groves vs Paul Smith
    Allan Green vs Sebastion Demers
    Mariusz Wach vs Jason Govern

All (except the Green fight) have hot prospects on and seem pretty competitive (depending on what Govern turns up, he can be capable). Also there are some other notables fighting with weaker opposition such as Steve Molitor, Chris Arreola, Guillmero Jones, Deontay Wilder and BJ Saunders.

Even lacking a star such as Mayweather/Pacquiao is this weekend the best we have seen in a year, or perhaps even longer?

Haha im sure not. You'll never find another fighter in that position- a grossly overweight, 43 year old, heavyweight you had to drop like 60 pounds from his last boxing match in about 9 months and travel to Russia to fight someone more than a decade younger with only like 5-6 weeks notice (I could be wrong, I didn't know about it for a while).
