Or can he make the jump in class and compete with the Europeans etc? So often we see american fighters looking good in their own country before being destroyed as soon as they face a mexican/brit/other. For me he's another yank hype job who wouldn't be able to live with the best of British. No wonder a lot of you ran off to watch two fellas cuddling in that hexagon thing.
Well I say : Thurman vs Bundu, make it happen. Would finally be a good payday for Bundu. If Thurman can beat Bundu he can play with the big boys.
:good good idea. Rather than calling out Brook, who clearly has bigger fish to fry than Thurman, why not vacate his worthless interim belt and try and get himself into IBF mandatory position currently held by Bundu I believe. To answer the question in the OP- yes, I think Thurman is set for a big fall. He maybe slightly better overall than Porter (and a lot better than Broner and Ortiz) but I do suspect he's harboring some shaky whiskers.
Which other country has potentially 6 and no less than 5 of the top 10 at WW? Which "dominant European circuit" country are you insinuating Thurman needs to step down to the level of? Even if we count all of Europe against he United States, the US blows Europe out of the water when discussing the current Welterweight scene. It would be Mayweather, Bradley, Thurman, Porter, Alexander, Guerrero VS. Brook, Bundu, Khan... Gavin...?
Are people still taking devon alexander seriously? He got ouclassed by Porter who was dominated by Brook.
Since more and more people are using boxrec as a guide, The top 20 at WW is made up of 10 Americans 2 Brits 2 Argentinians 1 Mexican 1 Italian-African 1 South African 1 Namibian So, would you mind explaining what "European level" consists of?
In fact based on Ring ranking, US does have 6 fighters in the Welterweight top 10, whilst there are only two European fighters in there, Brook and Khan. This is a really ******ed thread.
Thurman should fight Bundu, then the winner faces Brook. Bundu is the European champion, and he went to the UK to defend his title against an undefeated Brit Gavin. Thurman hasn't moved out of his comfort zone yet, and he's still fighting the guys who are brought by his promoter and supposed to lose. It just shows that the Ring magazine is a ridiculously biased publication.
Although the Ring rankings are very biased towards American fighters, the only weightclasses you can really put Euro level above American level are CW and HW, ea the big guys. Maybe you can trow in MW too now.
