He beat Foreman and Ruddock, but lost to Michael Benntt. Do you consider him overrated or underrated? One thing’s for sure he had heavy hands.

Somewhat underrated, if anything, by some - but generally rated about right by most.

I also think that he is rightly viewed, good fighter with great power and heart, but not among the elite and quite inconstant as a contender.

Another Great White Hope, although he did better than all of the previous ones that came before, mainly by winning the WBO belt by beating Foreman.

Jerry Quarry, Gerry Cooney, and Tommy Morrison had something in common, what was it????

A beautiful and powerful, textbook left hook of course!!!! ( I'm sure SOME of you were thinking complexion)
All three were good , well schooled fighters , with big hearts , that happened to come along at the wrong time. If they came along in today's game in their primes or the last ten years are so, some of you would be arguing how easily they'd beat past Atg's.
Morrison was a very good fighter, that happened to come along when their were simply a few better fighters around.
It really is that simple, same with Cooney and Quarry.
He wasn't overrated....... Sometimes underrated by some that are narrow minded.
He was Just a head case....
Getting back to that left hook, Morrison DID have a top ten left hook in the history of the division, it was fast, compact, and very, very powerful....

Overrated by people who think he could've hung with historically elite folks like Ali, Louis, Holmes, Dempsey, Frazier, young Foreman, Liston, etc., and because of the predisposition on this forum to big punchers.

Not a complete jabroni talent-wise and his hook actually was gargantuan, but he had too many demons to get any higher than he did.

    1. Quarry would give Bivol and Beterbiev a run for their money. His only real fault was being around when the weight classes were unfair to him.

I often wonder how Tommy Morrison would be rated if he had gotten the shot at Michael Moorer ahead of George Foreman. He might have beaten Michael Moorer and captured the Lineal Heavyweight Belt.

If he's seen as anything more than a blip on the heavyweight radar then he is overrated.

No one, but no one, was ducking Tommy. Meanwhile, his team attempted to guide him around any and all rocky shoals in order to preserve his status and add to the highlight reel of KO's over the embalmed.
