Watching a 2 hour special on Setanta last night I watched Calzaghe eat huge right hands flush on the chin from Eubank, Reid, Kessler etc. These guys can really punch and Calzaghe just took them and carried on.

Pro Hopkin's posts have placed a huge emphasis on Hopkin's right hand counters being the key to his victory.

If Calzaghe walks through these punches or evades them in the first place how much does this take away Hopkin's chance of victory?

Kind of difficult to 'walk through' punches you don't see coming.

How hard Hopkins punches isn't the issue. How well he sits his shots up is of more importance.

I get what you are saying but some of the shots I saw him take on that documentary last night he didn't see coming. If Hopkin's doesn't have much success with his right hand what's he gonna fall back on. I'm not knocking his other skills but all you hear on here from most (not all)Hopkin's fans is counter right hand?

Hopkins has a very big bag of tricks that he can use .. legal and illegal.

Hopkins' right hand might not have the power that some of the guys you mentioned have...but it's remarkably quick for an old dude. He unloads it so quick that the guy he levels it with never sees it.

He's a boxer he can hurt Joe with any punch..

It's not all black and white mate. Don't be over confident about this fight. I think JC wins but be prepared for the worst

Non Of Those Rights Came From Hopkins. Hes A Master At Timing If I Hit You With A Shot While Your Standing There It Might Not Have A Big Effect Now If I Hit You With That Same Shot After You Punch And Your Off Balance You Have A Knock Down

I'm not overconfident I'm still sitting on the fence at the moment. I'm just pointing that a hell of a lot of posts on here bang on about Hopkin's right as if that's all he's got.

It's significance is increased by Calzaghe being a southpaw

look for hopkins to try to counter with the right.keep the fight in the center of the ring and fight jc in the pocket.limit his punch output with accurate right hand counters and body punches.

he will have to make joe respect his punch power, if nails him everytime with this right hand it will slow down jc punch output.

Calzaghe is only hit by rights when he fights more recklessly, at range they rarely get landed.

The right hand of an old Hopkins is inferior to that of Reid (Calzaghe dominated Reid before the hand injury) and Eubanks.

reid was not a slick coutner puncher that understands south paws the way hopkins does.robin was a slouch, theres no fighter jc has faced to prepare him for popkins.

i can say the same for bhop as well though.hopkins will counter joe and often.if joe throws a 100 punches like he wants to he will get countered.theres noway around it, over it or under it.it just the way it is.

Reids right hand was a hell of a loty faster than Hopkins' is now. A very formindable punch to be facing when your left hand isn't at 100%.

The one he landed in the 11th would have decapitated most fighters. The last time I saw Reid was against Froch and he was shot to bits. Watching that documentary last night Reid looked strong as **** when he was fighting Calzaghe, ****ing huge upper body.
