what all time guys did Lewis beat ? Surley not evander holyfield he was older than the holmes that tyson fought!! going by your logic Holyfield was well past hsi best and tyson was not ATG so therefore Lennox is in exactly the same boat:hi:
Holyfield went on to win HW titles after his loss to Lewis....what did holmes do? He lost in every HW title fight he had after that Tyson fight
oh right a belt from john ruiz in the worst fights slash hug fests of all time, that raises evanders stock for you ?? I would certianly favour old larry to do the exact same or more likely better against Jawnyyy
I think Tyson is over rated due to the extreme marketing he recieved in the late 80's. People still fall for it all - they pinpoint 1988 and say that a 1988 Tyson was unbeatable. which is a joke to be honest - just that a 1988 Tyson was never tested.
To Be fair tyson also went and took out holmes like a true dominant champion. Lennox played cautious with a holyfield that had his worst fights ever afterwards, not to mention he has a bogus draw hanging over him there too lol it is what it is all of the forenamed are top ATG fighters its the reason they are always mentioned together so stfu
how so? Lennox Lewis beat everyone he ever fought and he went up against all the HWs of his era. Tyson fell short many times - he lost to both Lewis and Holyfield in one sided fights - not to mention defeats some real C class fighters. Lennox Lewis is an ATG heavyweight, Tyson is not.
the 90 second distruction of SPINKS, the beat down of an older yet very live HOLMES, the BERBICK KO, the HOLYFIELD I fight was fight of the year, the two bully beatings over BRUNO, and the wins over PINKLON, TUBBS AND GREEN...this alone, to me, is worthy of ATG.... defenintly NOT a HATTON... but I still think both KLITSCHKO'S have a better spot in the ATG hall o fame than TYSON... TYSON wouldve been in a easier spot if he had fought BOWE, WHITHERSPOON, MORRISON and FOREMAN... even MERCER..
Tyson is an over-rated washed up bum who should retire. (I just thought that I would say the things that are usual for this forum about most boxers). Iron Mike helped carry boxing through the latter half of the eighties and then the nineties. He was probably the last American heavyweight champion who will be termed legendary. After Tyson it has been downhill. Even De La Hoya did not warrant the news coverage that Tyson did. This isn't even a debate.
Impossible to say. We'll always have this discussion. You could say that Tyson's era was the weakest.Though an older, fatter Holmes had no problem going the distance with McCall and Holyfield and beating Ray Mercer. The quick hands of Tony Tubbs gave a young Riddick Bowe fits and an inactive Tony Tucker went the distance with Lennox Lewis. The most talented and skilled fighter from the mid-eighties was Tim Witherspoon and Tyson never fought him. That is one of my dream fights for the heavyweight division that very well could have been. When rating Tyson highly people do so because of his abilities shown-his combination punching, timing and his elusiveness-the fact that he was very difficult to hit clean in his prime.
Tyson was like an imploding super nova. Shone super bright for a very short time. There is a period of time where you could reasonably match tyson up H2H with almost any heavyweight and he stands a good chance of landing a monster uppercut or hook and ending the fight, but that period of time is too short to allow you to give tyson ATG status.
Lets just let the Tyson fans have their way. New criteria for ATG status: Must have a maximum of 4 years at the top. In that time you're not allowed to fight ONE great fighter in their prime. Facing faded ATG's past prime counts as prime. After that time has passed you're allowed to lose to the best fighters you've ever faced without it reflecting on your career. Not leaving your Country doesn't affect your ATG status. Anything I missed? Your best win should be against a fighter whos best was x2 divisions below maybe?
His round 1 KO percentage speaks for itself. The quality of your opponents is definitely something to consider, but knocking down fighter after fighter in the division so mercilessly has more to do with the one doing the punching that the ones taking the punch. Ali himself personally recognized his talent and said "this man is great", explaining that he wouldn't know what would happen if Tyson hit him square in a match prime vs prime.
It's impossible to say.Boxing is a somewhat subjective thing.I rate Foreman highly even though he started boxing later than Tyson and had a shorter peak. Maybe that is wrong as well. I think Lewis is with Joe Louis are probably the most complete heavyweights on film, but I'm of the opinion he'd have come undone against say Liston,Holmes and, yes, even a peak Tyson.
Wrong, Tyson was already camp for 3 years before Lewis even turned pro....and Holyfield was still reinging over the crusierweight division.
