Is Tyson fury actually that good or did he just catch klitschko at the right time?

It was both.

Klitschko had become entrenched in his a,b,c boxing routine jab, jab, right hand.

Against 99% of opponents he was taller, rangier and quicker than them so that worked great.

In the last round he decided to just walk fury down and was having success.

Earlier in his career Wlad was a more aggressive come forward fighter, but ironically he didnt have as good stamina back then so a couple of guys outlasted him and drowned him late. and he used that approach vs joshua as well.

In a rematch, Wlad would have been aggressive from the start, which would have been interesting to see if Fury could handle that, and how Wlads stamina would have held up.

but in their fight he was so used to doing the same thing for 10 years that he didn't react and switch up until it was too late.

 

If Wlad had shown the courage that he showed in the Joshua fight then he would have beaten Fury easily. Fury is a complete feather fist.

 

Just look at how Wlad took Joshua to a place of life and death a year and a half later.

Fury is has levels and levels of talent.

 

Klitschko was way past it, but Fury would always be awkward for him. Klitschko 5 years earlier would clearly win though.

 

If he showed courage against AJ but not Fury, wouldn't that suggest that AJ doesn't hit very hard?

Anyway, that's not what it was about. Purely about styles. Wlad doesn't like to throw when he isn't settled and Fury simply didn't let him settle. Constantly moving, switching and throwing from range - Wlad just couldn't figure him out. He hurt Wlad in there at times too, though never had him badly rocked or anything.

 

Fury boxed well enough (McDermott I being ignored) against lower opp than Wlad to suggest he was above that level. I just think the way he fights combined with his size makes him a difficult outing for most fighters. GOod movers are rare across the scene right now, so to have one that's 6'9 is really quite something.

 

He was always a cautious fighter since his defeat to Sanders and I'm guessing that he forgot how to fight aggressively. I'm sure in the rematch he would have let his hands go and went for the knockout.

 

Amazes me that Klit was on the decline put then nearly 2 years later should have stopped Joshua.

 

Then he'd have just punched air again and likely got countered. I picked Wlad to ice Fury but on reflection he is always going to be a pain for Wlad.

 

Fury fought the perfect fight. Wladimir was 40 and could only throw his triple flick jab at that point. Ultimately, Fury only won a couple more rounds over Wlad on my card than Jennings did. Obviously it's still a great and highly notable win I did not predict but it is not singularly indicative of Fury's talent in any way. He is without question one of the worst lineal HW champions in history.

 

It's a myth that Jennings was competitive against Wlad. Wlad dominated from start to finish. He just seemed more and more wary of going for his punches in his last few fights (except against Joshua). I think Fury's mind games worked wonders against Wlad as well a display of exceptional movement for 12 rounds rarely seen at HW.

That was the only time he let his hands go and he was catching fury pretty easily.

 

He really, really wasn't. He had a little more success, but most of his work was smothered by Fury (who then worked Wlad's body up close). Besides, after 11 rounds of moving, you'd expect someone Fury's size to be at least a little easier to find.

 

If Tyson Fury was *THAT* good, why did a prime Fury only throw 2 punches more per round than a 40 year old Wlad?
