Is Tyson Fury the Best British Heavyweight of All Time?

No, Lewis beats him here especially if Fury does walk away now.

 

I love Tyson Fury.

But if I'm being honest, Lennox is still ahead. But Fury is a very close second.

It's not really Fury's fault in fairness, Lewis simpler fought in a MUCH stronger era.

Regardless of which way round you have them though, Lewis and Fury are the top 2 by a mile and no one else is even remotely close.

 

Only between Lewis and Fury. Both men beat every person they ever fought. At the minute you have to give it to Lewis. IF Tyson fights on and beats Usyk and Joshua then I'd put him above or atleast level with Lewis. Lewis simply had more defences and more depth and quality on his record and he was undisputed.

 

What about Joshua? Let’s speculate that he some how wins the Usyk rematch and then fights Fury and wins. Suddenly his resume is

The Mercer fight was a close decision, which most agree Lewis probably edged. The Fury vs McDermott 1 fight wasn't close. And it's considered a robbery, they even changed the rules of the Referee judging British title fights, because it was such an awful decision. Yes I agree Fury was still learning, but still a robbery is a robbery and Fury should have 1 loss on his record.

And as for Holyfield vs Lewis 2 fight, I don't see how anyone could score that for Holyfield. I watched it recently and it was a clear 7-5 for Lewis, and that was me being generous to Holyfield. He did virtually nothing between rounds 8-11. But yes it was a more competitive fight, but it's still a fight most would agree Lewis deservedly won, again it wasn't robbery like Holyfield vs Lewis 1 or Fury vs McDermott 1.

Well I wouldn't say Golota was glassed chin, he can be caught cold early yes. But I certainly wouldn't call him glassed chin. Golota was fresh off giving Riddick Bowe two horrific beatings, and was considered a very dangerous fight for Lewis.

Morrison had just been in a terrific war vs Razor Ruddock, certainly didn't look ill in that fight which was before Lewis fight.

I already pointed out Tyson was old.

And you say Morrison had been stopped before, well so had Dillian Whyte twice before by Joshua and an old Povetkin, so why is that any different ?

Lewis has a more meaty resume, more solid wins and more well rounded career. But as I said if Fury beats Usyk then the debate becomes alot harder.

 

The thing is though you can only judge a man by what he’s done not what he’s capable of in theory. Lewis maximized his potential and that has to be respected. But if Fury can continue on and dominate the sport for a couple more years then he has a very good case.

 

I think a lot of that would depend on the quality of Fury's opposition in those four years.

 

Unlucky for fury he's in a weak era... simultaneously...he's lucky he's in a weak era.

 

Him and Lewis are the best

 

McCall and Rahman were maybe slightly better than Whyte but not much. Cannot imagine Fury losing them.

 

McCall was smaller and less powerful than Whyte. His chin was obviously superior but he did become a journeyman after the Lewis MH breakdown and never faced another champion. Rahman had a big punch but not a great boxer or chin. I don't see either putting any dent in Fury, or 2002 Mike or 99 Holyfield. As for tko6, was a cut stoppage while behind on all three cards. Not a lot can be deduced from it unless you are a Lewis nuthugger. Dear old Bruno gave Lewis a tough few rounds. Would Bruno stop or even beat Whyte? Not sure on that. Would be a career best win for Bruno outwith the McCall decision

 

Lennox Lewis is ahead in terms of who he beat, but I wouldn’t know who to pick if they fought prime for prime
