Sounds about right to me. You could probably even slightly extend Wlad to 2013 or so.

    I think Vitali was better.

I think prime Wlad is better.

    I think Lewis is better.

I think they beat him, and possibly all by stoppage.

Still.... him being 4th or 5th best in 20 years, is a hell of an accomplishment.

He needs to prove it more though. Lots of potential, but his resume is seriously lacking, imo. And thats what matters.

Fury as the potential to be up there with V and Lennox, however he hasn't even had 30 fights yet.

    Time will tell.

He's got a win over OLD Wlad and an official draw against Wilder.

He's nowhere near proving himself the greatest of the last 2 decades. If he retired right now he'd be a boxing footnote. Get a grip.

That bit in bold is what's relevant. Fury's skills are not in doubt. His commitment and ability to maintain a level of greatness for years, however, is in doubt. That's what it takes to be truly great.

    Laet's take another example.

I'm a big Corrie Sanders fan and followed his career from the get-go. It was clear that he was something special with the ability to beat the top guys of his era. But he never had the commitment and focus to become the best of his time. Even though he proved himself against a better version of Wladimir in a much more decisive way, I could never call him the greatest of his era or even one of the greats. It takes a legacy to do that.

Mostly because he's that good and partly because the HW division sucked since Lewis retired.

You'd have to take the the 90's aggressive and explosive version Lewis to beat him , not the flat and sloppy 2002/2003 version.

He'd give Gastony Joshua a boxing lesson. He already clowned Wlad silly and he's all wrong for Vitali in every sense.

Wlad has better achievements so you'd have to rank him higher , but Fury is without doubt the best all around pure boxer since Lewis retired , easily . :deal::naughty2::icon_tfno:

    I completely agree.

I think that could be down to modern day society and how the world is full of distractions for big players in the boxing sport. Money, fame, expensive things etc etc.

It cant be easy keeping focused and level headed when you just been paid 5 mil plus for 6 minutes of boxing. The temptation of steering off course (Which Fury has done) Will always be there for most boxers.

In regards to legacy, this generation of HW Is no doubt poor compared to the late 80s early 90s and of course the years before that. So I agree it would be difficult to cement a legacy in this current generation of 'Money' heavyweights.

I got Vitali and Lewis beating Fury right now, a prime Wlad would be close but Fury showed Wlad's shortcomings (and i think Fury would just get in his head again).

I know Fury lost alot of weight fast, but I just think by looking at Fury, he's got another 15% to go until he's 100%.

A 100% Fury, the way he's boxing right now (but fitter imo), is a close fight with Lewis and Vitali and I wouldn't bet any big money against Fury.

I'm glad he's back and looking good, I thought he was gonna go off the rails again after that Wilder robbery.

He is his own worst enemy, a focused Fury from day #1 could of conquered the world.

Maybe he will suprise us all.

Lennox is the best HW champ since The Greatest
Muhammad Ali. The only fights he lost were really due to his own lack of focus.
Just think for a minute how great Ali would have been if they hadnt stolen 3 1/2 years of his prime for purely political reasons

The problem with Fury is his inconsistency, choice of soft opposition and his lack of professionalism when it comes to diet and exercise. I'd be very careful analyzing his historical standing at this early stage of his career.

He can potentially become a dominant ATG contender over the next 10 years or -- equally likely -- explode like a supernova to 450 lbs and retire at 31. It all depends on his choice of opposition and the level of discipline his fragile psyche allows him.

He's probably greater than Vitali, but he isn't even close to Lewis or Wlad, that's a ridiculous suggestion
