He said he was retired about 30+ times so yeah, I think retirement is a criteria everyone uses to no longer claim a boxer as being lineal champion.

 

Yes!! Canelo claimed to be World Middleweight Champion but when he was ordered to defend it at the official weight of 160 instead he cowardly handed it back

 

well this was inevitable. When so many titles came out eventually we wouldn't know who the champion was, and he did beat Klitchko. So he has a claim to it. Had there been one main champion, then everyone in each division would not have a title.

I’m not sure if he was right or not, but did Micheal Spinks not claim he was champion on a TV interview(watched it on YouTube) the same time Tyson was unified champion?

I remember Micheal Spinks looking embarrassed was the interviewer pointed out his claim.

 

No he doesn't because again Klitschko was never a lineal champion at Heavy, he was regarded as "the man" in the division. Lineal and being "the man" in the division are two totally different things. If that was the case, then AJ had a legitimate claim to call himself the lineal champion as well whilst Fury accepted his backdated ban for failing a drugs test and him going on to win and defend 3 world titles plus the ring belt.

You see how ridiculous that sounds? If UKAD never ****ed up the handling of the case, Fury would have been stripped of all his titles and rightfully banned.
