To say Holyfield moved up to heavyweight just because of Mike Tyson is beyond comical. And to further go on to say he based all his training on facing Tyson is enough to send you on the window licking bus......

 

I disagree. Prison saved Holyfield and Foreman from Tyson and advanced their careers. Even Lennox Lewis's career prospered. Tyson goes to prison and all of a sudden guys like Michael Moorer, old George Foreman, Bruce Seldon, Oliver McCall, Frank Bruno and Frans Botha become champions. The whole heavyweight division prospered because Mike Tyson went to jail.

Douglas was a one off fluke. Douglas knew this, Tyson knew this, so give Tyson a rematch to prove it wasn't. Like Louis lost to Schmeling, Tyson's loss to Douglas brought on a blitzing of Alex Stewart and 2 dismantlings of the much avoided Razor Ruddock. Tyson was on his way to regaining the title from Holyfield.

Holyfield knew this and defended against an easier opponent in Foreman, then went for a rematch with Foreman before Tyson finally told Don King that enough is enough and would've ended Holyfield's career until a cracked rib occurred after his 5,000th sit up of the day. Holyfield got lucky.

 

It was far from a fluke, Douglas battered him up and down the ring from the opening bell. Those dismantlings of Ruddock finished Tyson in his own words. Prison merely delayed the beating Holyfield was going to give him.
