Is Tyson really susceptible to the traditional boxer?

He would beat Ali, Foreman, Liston, Holyfield at the same time in his prime.....

They were fortunate he went to prison.

Almost as fortunate as James "Lucky Bast*rd" Douglas.

How anyone can say Douglas was lucky that night is beyond me.

    He was lucky that night.
Almost as lucky as Desiree Washington the night she lucked out in a hotel room and got some cheap fame of off it.
She saved a lot of careers with her lies.

Holyfield outclasses Tyson anytime any place, any day.

Tyson is more famous for the fights he lost than the ones he won.

I prefer this explanation. No need for mind-reading tricks, and anyway Tyson was fairly predictable by then. Both Douglas and Holyfield got him by being first. Sounds simple on paper of course, but that was the trick to it. Just be first.

They have to hit him hard though, because he's going to hit them hard, and he's going to slip some punches. Be first and make them count.

Oops! Up pops the ever faithful Unforgiven. Figures you'd be agreeing with lil sister Wass.

Just stay off Tyson threads. You have nothing to contribute. Stick to Holyfield threads and the familiar Evan Fields story we've heard so much about...

And Tyson had a great chin, so that's no easy task. Pretty much the same principles apply for beating any great fighter, hit them hard and often and don't let them impose their plan too much - and it will take a great fighter or a great effort at least to be victorious. Obviously some fighters can be waited on and countered more and beaten with a more defense-oriented game-plan, while others would necessitate a more aggressive policy, but I don't think there's one particular style. When it comes to great fighters there probably aren't many instances where there's a vulnerability to a style that will completely produce a mis-match. It will almost always take some degree of greatness or excellence to beat a great fighter anywhere near his prime.

His plan A was pretty good though.

    Very good indeed.

I do recall at the peak of his powers he was sometimes labelled one dimensional in fights, by Jim Watt especially.

I don't get butt hurt. That must feel painful. That's really gross, Wass. This is neither the place or forum to discuss your Tuesday nights at the rainbow room.
