The judges had it as 6-4, and it would have been 5-5 without the flash knockdown. So yes, Tillis was pretty close.

 

Which five rounds did you think Tillis won? The other judge had it 8-2, which was a more accurate reflection of the action. Tillis gets tons of credit for merely surviving when he was out-worked and out-fought in the majority of the rounds.

My initial comments were more based on the scorecards of the judges rather than my personal view of the fight but that's irrelevant. It's fair to say that most of the rounds were reasonably close, otherwise it would not warrant such a tight scoring.

The overall point being that you didn't need to be a big puncher to beat Tyson, as termite suggested. He was, like everyone else, susceptible to being outboxed, even if it's a relatively light puncher in question.

Are you daft? Tillis was a journeyman with good, but not exceptional skills. If he could fight relatively close rounds with Mike and nearly take the win in the eyes of two judges present, then surely someone with elite boxing skills could actually win without knocking Mike out or particularly hurting him.

 

...making it all the more impressive, assuming you give Spinks the appropriate level of regard he deserved.

As stated point out the close rounds tillis was on the verge of winning?you cant ,theres only two and I think he actually only won one of those.If Tyson was pressed or in any danger you think hes really just going to cruise the entire fight?

What some posters don't realise is the incredible mental pressure fighters go through, especially in big fights like this.
The immense pressure to perform and to rise up to the occassion cannot be emphasised enough.
While I definitely do think Spinks was intimidated, I think the pressure to perform got to him. Strange to think considering his big fight experience, but I do think it played it's part.
Whatever criticisms one wants to level at Tyson, he responded well to the big occassion.

 

Termite, Tillis pushed Mike pretty close. How the **** do you manage to be wrong so often?
