I wonder if there should be some rule changes to make UFC safer and less, one slip and you have lost your title.

You have got finely tuned intelligent athletes(bar a couple), who have suddenly got to go into an arena to do virtually bare knuckle fighting.

What's more, with the small gloves, virtually anyone can be knocked out with a lucky flailed punch.

I just feel, human beings aren't best suited to this kind of pressure, and it can often lead to dull fight. Of course there are many many great fights and fighters in UFC but I get the sense the sport could be improved, but I'm not quite sure how.

i feel the same way. i love grappling almost as much as boxing but it is too brutal. i feel when someone is fully mounted, he gets a point deducted, similar to a knockdown in boxing. it gives someone a purpose on the ground other than cutting up the other guys face with brutal elbows. the size of the gloves are fine, have you ever felt boxing gloves, they aren't there to protect the fighters face, but the fighters hand. but as more guys understand boxing, which is happening, more guys are going to get poked in the eye.

The UFC was originally designed to simulate fighting. If you can't stomache it than don't watch it.

AmericanSugar your proposed rule change is absolutely terrible.

Fighters lose no matter what the martial art. There are fighters who can take good shots with 4oz gloves. Hardy looks to have a good chin when clocked.

Majority of boxers with pretty records in boxing have not fought non stop quality opponenets. Floyd is undefeated but then so is Fedor in practice. Carwin, Machida etc are undefeated and looking imposing.

The UFC is supposed to be as close to a genuine fight as possible. I'm happy with it.

why? what offensive can a fighter who is mounted do? he is virtually defenseless. the fight from there should reset and a point deducted from the mounted fighter. im not saying anything should be illegal, like elbows and such, but it gives a fighter a purpose on the ground other than submission and gnp

its not a fight, a real fight has no rules dude. by implenting any type of regulation it becomes something else entirely. although fighting is in the name, ufc is ufc, you no what i mean?

That's why they invented takedown defense. If you're going to do that, then you have to stop the fight when a guy is taking punches up against the fence, seeing as it inhibits his ability to punch back effectively. Pretty soon, all you have is a kickboxing match. If you want that, go to Taiwan.

What?! You HAVE to be joking, right? If you can't ESCAPE the mount than you aren't a good enough fighter to win the fight obviously.

Yeah, it's fair for a great Jits fighter to work for a takedown for 8 minutes, finally get it, pass to mount, and then get stood up with a point deducted from the other fighter.

The only thing your chance would do is stop people from trying to pass to mount.

You are right that a mounted fighter can't do much offensively but that IS THE ENTIRE POINT of passing the guard. You want to have a positional advantage of course.

I know where you're coming from, and I agree with you to an extent, but I'd be inclined to leave the sport the way it is purely because it prevents the fighters from becoming zero-protectors and prevents the fans from becoming zero-worshippers. In MMA, anyone can lose at any time. All-time greats like GSP has been knocked out, BJJ black belt Anderson Silva has been submitted, BJ Penn's corner have had to throw in the towel. And yet these three guys are revered as the real elite this sport has ever had to offer. And that's a good thing. Everyone is mortal and can be beaten, and beaten badly, but they can always return, improve, and be great without micromanaging their careers to avoid risks. In boxing, we have guys like Floyd Mayweather and Joe Calzaghe who calculate their every move to protect that zero, and their fans who believe an intact zero equals immortal ATG invincibility. Nah, I'd say leave MMA as it is, it isn't broke so let's not fix it.

its not about escaping the mount, you see its domination that i want to emphasize. dominate position. yes a jits guy will probably see this as an advantage, but elbows are an advantage for a wrestler and soccer kicks for a muay thai guy, generally. i feel it raises it to a higher artform.

in boxing a fighter isn't hit when he gets knocked down because s fighter who touches the canvas is shows dominance, and there is no reason to hit him anymore, the point has been made (no pune intended)

It is supposed to simulate a real fight with anything goes (obviously not including weapons). They got rid of certain things so it isn't a ***** fight, too risky and/or get it past the commissions. However, there aren't many things that genuinely restrict a MMA. I think kicks to a grounded opponent is the only tough one.

It doesn't become something else entirely. Are you from the school that think MMA is a completely different sport from boxing?

No, MMA is nothing like fighting. When was the last time you stepped behind a bar and saw some unlucky ******* in a kimora?

And the UFC has not been anything similar to a fight ever since dana white and co. took over and commercialized it.

Nope the UFC is fine. Now if you said PRIDE you may have had a case. The rules in PRIDE were designed for as much excitement as possible. That made some of the injuries quite brutal. Some of the worst fights in terms of brutality iv ever seen were in a PRIDE ring.

When was the last time you saw some guy get into a fight at a bar with a BJJ blackbelt?

Just because most street fights take place between two unskilled fighters doesn't mean it is nothing like fighting.
