America only wants the best of the best. The Pacquiao's, Mayweather's, etc. We're no longer the mecca of solid fighters. The histories of Madison Square Garden and Las Vegas will always make them contenders for big fights, but the proliferation of media has made boxing a much more global, de-centralized sport. There are a lot of great places for boxing. America is one of them; particularly at the top.
Exactly ?? Europe can pack 60,000 into a soccer stadium but they want to live in America!....they want to win in America!
Yes,a European one at that. Most European fighters dream of fighting in Vegas or MSG. Ive never heard of an American dreaming of fighting in a stadium in Germany.
What type of pay days are available in Europe? I'm sure if Mayweather could make more money he would fight over there, reminds me of the Cowboy Stadium matches which sold very well but the money didn't equal Vegas.
As a boxing fan in US, I tend to see more programs dedicated to boxing in the UK than US. The 2 or 3 UK boxing network will televise matches from all over the world. In the US, TV discussions of boxing is rare and becomes news as a side event like Floyd's personal troubles or that innocent prisoners who faught a match after released. Hollywood and marketing a boxer in the US is part of how some people think making it means.
Funny, when I look at the title of this thread, in the '40s 'n '50s, the mecca of boxing was between 50th (MSG) & 54th St. (Stillmans Gym) on 8th Ave. in N.Y. It was known as Jacob's Beach.
I hear you but let me ask you this, Is there a HOF, do they reconize fight or fighter of the year. Is there an ATG list. I don't know that's why I'm asking.:bbb
You have to look at it historically. Even if boxing is diminished in the states it is still in large part the mecca of boxing.
Yes, and it's not even a debate, people don't go to England to become a star, they don't go to Japan, they don't go to Spain...they come to America. I mean it's not a knock on anybody else, it's just the way it is.
obviously boxing is a global sport but I will say that the biggest worldwide audience will view fights in Las Vegas. That is the big time. I think America is still the mecca but the gap is not as big as it used to be.
obviously......all the top fights outside the HW division occur in America..... 80 percent of the top 50 fighters of all time are American, America still has a better crop of fighters than any other country in the world as evidenced by the number of champions and the fact that 60% of the top 10 P4P are American. no nuthugging here, I'm not American, it's just the truth. I know it's hard for non Americans to accept this as they generally view Americans as cocky assholes but facts are facts.
USA holds 19 belts Mexico holds 14 belts Europe holds 11 belts Most Mexicans fight in America So yeah duh, nobody gives a **** about Europe unless its a heavyweight fight
