He has wins over Bellew,Chisora Gassiev Glowacki, Briedis Huck and Hunter. Is this enough to be considered an ATG or does he need to beat some more quality fighters ?
For me Usyk is as much HOW he did it as the paper part of the resume - all in the back yard, with the deck stacked against him in most cases,a dn with the arguable exception of Breidis, he was the dominant and clear winner. That said, whether he is elevated to ATG will mostly (whether right or wrong) depend on the outcome of his fight with Joshua. If he wins (again, in the opponents backyard, with no advantages), then it's hard to argue against - and in Joshua it will be against one of the legit top 3 (or 2 in most folks eyes, sorry Wilder) heavyweights - so unlike Haye, would not be 'stealing' a title. H2H Usyk is a nightmare for any cruiser in history (yes, even Holyfield), and not an easy night for any heavy either, although even if he does beat Joshua, he would be unlikely to scratch a top 100 HW all-time list as he simply has not had enough fights in the weight class to even be under consideration. In terms of the poll, i'd say it's maybe a bit too open; Is Usyk an ATG Cruiser? Yes already IMO. Is Usyk a P4P ATG? Not yet, very much contingent on beating Joshua and possibly even having a few defences to cement it. He wil never be an ATG HW though, simply doesn't have enough time left to have enough HW fights.
Yes, he already makes it. He's already beaten more top 5 ranked fighters than many, many ATG fighters. He's all-time top 2 at cruiserweight. He makes up for the volume with the quality and he has a bit before him. Now, if he turns out to be a bust at heavyweight, that would affect his standing negatively, and maybe he would slip. If he retired tomorrow, yeah, he'd make my ATG list.
Hypothetically, if he could beat the recent and current title holders - AJ, Fury, Wilder, and Ruiz, and mix in another win or two - I think he'd enter the discussion.
ffs once in a generation fighter cleared out cruiser better than haye travles anywhere fights anyone and going for heavyweight glory even though a little under sized against theses modern day behemoths
Too soon…he needs more significant scalps on his resume and if he were to clean out the heavyweight division then he could enter that realm of possibility.
Yes and I'd argue he is an ATG. And along with Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev the only ATG of the previous decade. With a possible inclusion of Roman Gonzalez in there as well.
Seems unrealistic he will ever become a HW ATG. As far as p4p ATG he probably already is, but hes not exactly an absolute bona fide lock ATG. Currently I rate his p4p ATG status as similar to Shane Mosley. A borderline ATG and probably lean more towards yes than no.
At Cruiser yes, he's arguably the best cruiser ever along with Holyfield, but in a P4P sense no, I don't think so, not yet at least. If he beats Joshua though, which I don't think he has a reasonable chance of doing then yes he's a lock in not many cruisers can make that jump up especially in an era of super heavies.
Two generational wins at heavy. Two generational wins at 200lbs. Approaching double figures for top ten ranked guys defeated. Most of them in the top 5. Retires undefeated at that point? What possible argument exists for having him ranked below someone like Zarate? Or Jimmy Bivins? Or Mike Spinks? However, those are two huge candies you are handing out.
