Would be a shame for the fight to be called off due to this. Of course they can't do the fight in Russia and of course they have to wait for the favorite to properly heal. I don't get why this is "diva behavior" in any shape or form. There's a possibility that the 2 tournament favorites won't fight in the final this way.
Benefit of the doubt but the shame of both tournaments is that both finals are in jeopardy so they gonna have to put some more thought into times of these things as it’s turning a brilliant thing into the usual boxing nonsense
What's the difficulty of just holding it in a neutral venue? Germany would be ideal. Russia and Ukraine just have far too much bad blood to make either country a viable (or even safe) location to hold the fight.
Exactly. Man has fought (and won) in everyones back yard and refuses to go to one country which just so happens to be at war with Ukraine. How does that equal to being a diva is beyond me. Ward road warrior lol
Usyk is the antithesis of a diva. Won his world title in his opponent's backyard, against Glowacki who was 26-0 and highly regarded. Took to the road again for his first defence of it when he fought on neutral turf (America) against one of slickest, most skilful and awkward guys in the division in Mchunu (17-2), a fighter who, due to his high skill level and awkwardness, no one would opt to take on for a voluntary defence, let alone for their first defence and US TV debut. Then he heads back to the US again for his second defence, taking on former top amateur and undefeated 12-0 as a pro Michael Hunter in his country with the ref and all 3 judges also coming from Hunter's country. Travels over to Germany to for his third defence to face long reigning former WBO champ Marco Huck (40-4-1) in his backyard. Then for his fourth he heads on over to WBC champ Mairis Briedis' backyard of Riga for a unification match up. A ''diva'' who won his world title in his opponent's backyard and has defended it in his opponent's countries x 3, made his other defence of it on neutral turf, and has never had home advantage for any of his world title fights and has not had a single Ukrainian judge for any of those fights, let alone a referee from his country. And it's not like he's even asking for home advantage or home country officials in this instance either.
He doesn't want to rush his injury and doesn't want to go to Russia due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
The same fans complaining are happy to see a foreign fighter go to vagas and fight with 3 american judges and an american referee. I think many American fans think deck stacking is the real sweet science and foreigners should always be on the recieving end of it
I'm pretty sick of it myself, but you don't go to fight a boxing match in a country that invaded your country. That's just not reasonable at all. I'd love them to do it in Latvia. It's been talked about supposedly. Can't see it.
