I feel like he's our modern day Gene Tunney. A pound for pound fighter, but a bit hard to rate as a heavyweight. Although, if he continued on for a while and got a few good names on his resume at heavyweight, this could change.
This was true n wen uysk was asked about it he said that was his plan all along not sure what to think about it
The Cruiserweight division was only created in the 1980s and has never been historically strong, yes Usyk was in a Cruiserweight division that was on the up at the time and he deserves credit. But people go a bit overboard sometimes with modern fighters, Usyk's best wins at that weight are a close decision vs Breidis and a win over Gassiev. Good wins yes but ATG worthy ? i'm not sure about that. Holyfield beat Carlos De Leon, Dwight Muhammad Qawi x2, at Cruiserweight which are as good as those wins. Aswell as wins over Foreman, Holmes, Tyson x2, Bowe, Mercer, Moorer, at Heavyweight. So Usyk has got some way to catch up to Holyfield who is comparable to him in the fact he started at Cruiserweight.
He hasn't really had the opportunity to do otherwise. I see no reason to believe Usyk was at fault for not being able to fight Fury. AJ is the next best thing he could do.
