    I personally lean towards yes.

If Fury stays retired, then there would be no reason to question it.

If Fury comes out of retirement, then it will become controversial, but I would personally argue that Fury had relinquished the title.

But don't we have to go for 'The man that beat the man that beat..', especially if Fury is active?
    Look at Michael Spinks.
He was seen as lineal, he fought once a year, meanwhile Tyson had claimed all the belts and was beating all.
But Spinks was still thought of as the lineal champ.

Did Spinks ever formally retire though?

The problem that we are up against, is that the policy has not been applied consistently over the years.

No, your correct, the policy as being all over the place.
The Wlad and Vitali lineal thing was crazy.
Vit retire, so Wlad classed the linear, but then Vitali returned. So who the hell was the champ then.
No he never formally retired I don't think, but some must have thought he had because he hardly fought.

Come to think of it, that's Fury!

The "Lineal Title" falls to pieces under scrutiny. It may be the least legitimate belt in all of boxing, and that's saying something. It has been a great marketing tool aimed at the casuals as of late but in the past was merely trivia.

If the intention is for the lineal championship to lose its meaning - it is!

Agreed Fergy, But in Usyk's case he is 35 which is old for a champion. Usyk needs more ring activity to stay sharp, if he decides to take a long hiatus from boxing, a well known individual by the name of Father Time may pay him a visit when he decides to defend his title, Father Time pretty much can lick anyone he faces, take a look at Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes, George Foreman and many others in boxing's rich past.

Nah, the p4p title is the least legitimate belt or title in all of boxing. At least with the lineal title you can match 2 fighters in a possible matchup and debate who’s the best cos at least they are in the same weight division. Not so with the totally irrelevant p4p title which is totally a marketing tool

    Ring magazine screws up again.

Of course Usyk is not the lineal champion.

Fury was retired for about as long as he was on the phone with a writer for Ring. The last few weeks, he's been trying to make fights with Chisora, he's been in the gym demonstrating how he'd beat Usyk, and he called out the winner after the fight last night.

Someone should get the Ring editorial board a wifi connection. Apparently, none of them have social media.

Mauricio Sulaiman is officially smarter than the entire Ring editorial board. Even he knew too wait.

I think the Ring editorial board were the only people on earth who thought Tyson Fury wouldn't fight again.

Shortest retirement in heavyweight title history. Lasted as long as a phone call.

By time Fury beats Usyk, he'll have more Ring belts than WBC Azteca belts, which is about how valuable a Ring belt is becoming.

The Ring Magazine editorial board needs to get out of its own way.

Shortest retirement next to that of Tom Brady of the NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
