Fury straight up called out Usyk after the match yesterday. If Usyk want a legitimate claim on the lineal title, that fight needs to happen. Or Fury needs to truly retire.

Usyk also said if he's not fighting Fury he's not fighting.

    Early next year I'd say.

Yes he is. Even if Fury does return it’s too late for him. The reason he was the lineal champ the last time he came back was because number 1 (Joshua) never fought number 2 (Wilder). But this time number 1 (Usyk) did fight number 2 (Joshua) therefore creating a new lineage. If Lennox Lewis returned would he be the lineal champ?

his last time winning a match was December 2020 with 39 age Pulev. not a great challenge. is now August 2022

he is now after this match 2win&3loss in last 5 match.

    Lol
think how poor weak division mediocre it must be.

Rummy, I really enjoyed this video.

I'm going to give my proper thoughts on it when I have time.

Just wanted to acknowledge the video.

No, but Lennox might have been the returning lineal champ if:

    * Lennox frequently cried wolf on retirement.

    * Lennox "retired" after the Vitali fight.

    * Vitali immediately faced the #2 guy, and won.

    * Lewis came back shortly thereafter.

The real answer is its debatable, with both arguments having equal merit.

For me, when you retire, your belt goes with you, if you unretire you have to win your belt back. There's examples of this previously with Jeffries, Louis, Ali, Vitali and Fury himself. Plus many many examples across the other divisions.

The Corbett/Maher example is a very good one. That's the only time a champion has un retired and been able to reclaim his championship, however I'm not convinced how "reclaimed" that championship was. Any biography of Maher references him as a champion, albeit a disputed one. However I can't find any sources considering Fitzsimmons to be the defending champion against Corbett.

I wasn't around back then, but I wonder if Fitzsimmons himself said Corbetts claim was the true one, and he needed to beat Corbett, I don't know.

What I do know is, the matter needs to be resolved in the ring, and I'm unsure where history will stand on the idea that Usyk is the defending champion.

These things get debated for time immortal, and I don't expect that to change here.

Over time I've grown comfortable including Vitali in my list of HW champions, I will see how I feel about Maher joining that list and look into it more.

I don't think there is any sources of a Maher biography where he isn't considered to have been a champion though, I think that's more of a perception issue.

Then again at one time I ignore the Corbett retirement altogether so maybe I'll change my mind.

I would be ok with him being declared the linear champ. At this point no one really has a standout claim. Fury has had too many periods of on and off activity over the years to be called a defending linear champ. Ideally I think the fans would like to see Fury and Usyk face off to settle the claim once and for all but with the way super fights are made nowadays who knows if it’ll ever happen or happen in any reasonable time frame

In my view if Fury can go away for three years and still be declared the lineal champion, then I think he maintains that status for now until proven otherwise
