Is Usyks greatness debatable?

    "Glamour", no. But Breidas,
If he beats Fury, he's MORE dominant than Tyson was in his prime, just without the flashy knockouts.

Aside from Fury, there is a pretty large gap between Usyk and the next best heavyweight. And that's at 35 years old with almost 350 amateur fights.

Who in the division could beat him?

    Wilder? would never touch him.
Joyce? Usyk beat him in a 5 rounder that didn't allow him to gas the Juggernaut.
    Dubois? Not a chance
Ruiz? Usyk would gas him in 8 rounds
    AJ? Seen that movie twice
Hrgovic? Zhang showed he's got a long way to go
    Ortiz? please

You can claim he's not an ATG because he's only had 4 HW fights, but two of them were against the #2 heavyweight in the world and he dominated both fights. If he beats Fury, he's in the conversation as maybe the best HW of all time.

It’s funny to see people taking shots at a guy like Usyk in an era in which most top fighters refuse to fight top completion at their own weight, they cherry pick, play the A-side card, insist on getting every advantage and do everything possible to protect the 0 on their puffed up records. And he does it with a great attitude, a smile on his face and some hilarious humor. You never see him claiming “it’s personal” or any of the common pro wrestling hype we see from so many other fighters. The man just does his job without demeaning his opponents or resorting to trash talking ghetto antics.

Usyk is a rare fighter who will literally fight anyone anywhere and has always gone after the top competitors at his weight and now at the weight above his natural weight. No other fighter in boxing is giving up the size Usyk gives up and we have people criticizing his power? His undefeated record isn’t made up of scrubs and no hopers like so many fighters (Tank Davis, etc. ). He hasn’t ducked the top guy at his weight (Crawford, Spence, etc) and hasn’t been gifted any decision victories (Canelo, etc). He’s earned every victory and has always targeted the best opponents, usually in their own backyard. I’m a life-long fan of boxing and can’t recall anyone attempting to do what Usyk is doing.

I’m not making any ATG proclamations or blowing this up into something bigger than it is. Just saying that boxing needs more guys like Usyk. As a boxing fan, I appreciate what he is doing and hope he can keep it going as long as possible. There is zero chance he is going to duck anyone or hood belts hostage like so many fighters. I’ve never seen him fight on Twitter like so many punk “champs” or disrespect an opponent. Usyk conducts himself like a champion should. We need more guys like Usyk in boxing and less big mouth cherry picking diva punks. His greatness is undeniable.

Well said and so true. But he is an ATG already.

I don't think so, what he's done has been amazing. A complete fighter skill wise and has accomplished so much in the sport. An impressive amateur pedigree, Olympic gold medalist, undisputed at cruiserweight and now has beaten a good heavyweight who is much larger then him twice and has defended his unified titles.

    No debate to be had.
I’ll admit I wasn’t completely sold on him at HW until I saw him take AJ’s power in RD9 and come back to dismantle the guy in RD10. The guy’s got everything, skills, respectable power, heart, dedication, character. A true champion and regardless of what happens next in his career, an ATG of the sport

Byrd struggled with big heavyweights and movers: mover Oquendo got robbed, Golota got a draw, McCline fight was razor close. Completely schooled and beaten up by Wlad on two occasions. Bulldozed by Ibeabuchi inside 15 minutes (albeit in a competitive fight up to that point). Down on the cards vs Vitali before Vitali pulled out with an injury after 9.

Byrd was far smaller than Usyk, relatively static, didn't have Usyk's chin or engine, was a lighter puncher and although Byrd was a star amateur, he didn't have Usyk's amateur pedigree. Byrd's best win barring Vitali's injury retirement was probably Tua but Tua was one dimensional, leaden-footed and 5'9.

Gassiev and Briedis are definitely world class, Briedis is one of the most underrated boxers of this generation

Usyk has it all together. The only guy thru the history of boxing that i can even imagen knocking Usyk down is the legendary 1966's version of Our 'Enry.

I know it is fashionable to knock AJ now, but there was a time he was in the conversation as the best heavyweight in the world. People have forgotten that which is a shame. He is still a very good heavyweight, just not as good as some thought he was, myself included.

Yes. Quite frankly, shocking how skillful he is. He demonstrates some ridiculous stuff out there.

Yes, he is. Sometimes I believe people confuse ATG with THE ATG even in 1 or 2 divisions. Usyk is unquestionably an ATG.
